Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

I have seen that your fan base seems to be changing their opinion on Anderson. Seeing ridiculous figures rating him as low as a 40m player. I think he goes for 80m people saying what has he won but maybe I need to remind some of your fans what fee you paid for Grealish and had he won anything before joining City. Think only one person really matters on the fee and that person I believe is Pep if he thinks the price is right he comes to you. If he doesn't arrive at City I would be happy to have another 3 seasons of Anderson and we sell someone else to help balance the books.
Not sure Pep gets any say re what’s good value.

He’s a football coach, not a business leader.

If this is the level of player we are going after then we really have lost the ambition we once had.
He’s a decent premier league midfielder and that’s about it.
He’s nowhere near the level of gundog, silva, Bernardo, Kev, Yaya, fern, nasri, the list could go on and on.
And before anyone highlights his position against those mentioned, I’m saying the level of quality.
We have started to shop at some strange places in the last couple of years and the levels are dropping like a stone.
Gundogan was considered to be a crock with his back when signed. Kev was considered a failure and would not hack it by many etc. There are plenty of players that are not deemed good enough at the time but with hindsight were world class.

How do you mean shopping at strange places? Would you have said that about that twat Rooney because he was from Everton, Lampard when he was signed from West Ham got pelters, wasn't Roy Keane signed from a relegated Nottingham Forest? Could see Van Dijk's quality but he was bought from Southampton and completely sorted Liverpool's previously dodgy defence.

Ultimately, I don't think it matters where you sign a player from. If they have the quality physically, mentally and technically and is a player Pep wants, I'm all in.

Anderson is a top top player and looks like he has the right attitude to go with it, that latter cannot be taught or learned and is arguably the most important.

Depends who is willing to move mate. If Neves at PSG is interested, the he’s a no brainer. Timing is everything.
But he's probably not is he? Looking around and who is available for what we need and I don't see many better options than Anderson. Better option for us than Tonali, wouldn't touch anyone associated with Real Madrid with a barge pole and very unlikely anyone would willingly leave PSG at the moment - so who else is there?

I agree with some of that mate. But I’m talking about top quality players. Everyone knew gundog was a fantastic player. Kev was on fire in Germany and Pep told us to sign him. I think Anderson is a decent player, just like Semenyo is, but he is no Sane or even Sterling. I hope I’m wrong and Anderson turns out a great buy, I just don’t see it.

Who would have thought we could get David or Bernardo mate. Yaya was a surprise. I think if the player wants the premier league then we have as good a chance as anyone.

I’d say Fernades at West Ham is a better prospect. Also Guimaraes at Newcastle is a better player imo.

Completely understand it, just think occasionally some of the best players can be the ones that seem a little underwhelming at the time. Anderson's profile is exactly what we have been missing on a number of occasions this season.

However, I do take your point and also rate the Sterling mention - a horribly underrated player for us at times.

Gundogan was also considered as one of the key players (if not THE key player) in a Dortmund team that at the time was considered as one of the best teams in Europe, winning the German League, cups and reached a CL final.

Kev was by most (except idiot English pundits) considered as one of the best midfielders in the world after taking Wolfsburg to a 2nd place in Bundesliga, having 10 goals and 21 assists (a new league record) and being named Bundesliga player of the year.

On Anderson, I dont think he has shown he is a midfielder of the highest level (at least not yet). However, he seems like a player that turns up and does a good job every night. Which could be needed in a team like ours when we have plenty of players who look like world stars one night and go missing the next.
