4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

Am struggling to see exactly what he brings to this current City team.
Pep doesn't get things wrong to often but starting Reijnders yesterday was a mistake. He should be nowhere near the starting eleven.
Pep knows what he's doing, it's the players first season at our club and he has to have games and exposure in order to get used to our way of playing and the premier League.

Well if he has no Rodri and doesn't trust Nico Gonzalez and Kovacic.. atleast Reijnders moves the ball upfield responsibly which he did and he's got a good shot on him.

There's talent there.. and he's clearly got a willingness to run for Pep.

I think Thomas Mueller said.. if you're willing to run and hustle for Pep.. he'll play you and fine tune you to fit the system later.. Makes sense since if Nunes can do that.. Reijnders will be given a chance.

I think the damning verdict is Nico Gonzalez and Kovacic are very low on the pecking order and likely to be on the way out.

I hope your right.
Admittedly Pep football knowledge is slightly higher than mine.
History says players often struggle in their first season of a Pep side.
But I cant see it.

Well Kovacic basically just missed a full season, so I think the fact he's down the pecking order right now is largely to do with that. Pep rates him.

As for Nico, yeah it seems he's not trusted.

Felt that was his last chance Saloon, had to show something and he didnt. After that first game at Wolves as well ffs. Tijani Mangala.

Am I right in thinking that the second half of our season has partly been Pep going back to first principles and ignoring the stuff that everyone said was happening about needing carrying ball players to beat man to man. It feels like we are back to wanting players who can press high and work in tight pockets after a team has settled into a block. Kova, Nico G, Reijnders were all signed for a type of midfield profile we apparently are less fussed about now?

At the close of last season, few would have predicted that O’Reilly, Nunes, and Khusanov would have developed so quickly, yet here they are. Today’s culture is so conditioned to immediate satisfaction that the dispensing mindset even spreads to players. Unless a player himself wishes to leave or they’re aging and nearing the end of their contract, I wouldn’t want to lose any of the first-team squad. We’re a couple of pieces away from completing the jigsaw.

Not sure that he has the right attitude for PL. At one point yesterday he took the ball into the penalty area. Lost it when he was tackled and with the Brentford defender still with the ball about a meter away just turned his back on the play, no attempt to win the ball back leaving that to other City players.

I'm afraid your hopes as expressed in the OP have not been fulfilled. He needs to move on ASAP.

When talking about Rieners I would remember how everyone was quick to slate Nunes, and now look at him.

Even Rodri, Mahrez, and Gundo recieved stick in their first season. Happy to give him another season.
Until Nunes becomes a world class midfielder everyone would still be right about him. Not a City level midfielder but a City level fullback.

Not really because the things levelled at Nunes like how he cant tackle, cant pass, cant cross, had no bollocks and generally looked like a pub player have been proven completely wrong.

That was always nonsense though. He could always do all those things but he couldn’t put it together to become a midfielder. Very dissimilar to Reijnders who has displayed none of those attributes so far. Passing range hasn’t been seen, he can’t tackle, cross, defend and he has no bollocks. Body language was poor yesterday too

maybe we should stop fine tuning players to fit in and go for proper players? That hasn´t really worked that well in the last 2 seasons. Need to get back to Europes best and it won´t happen without signing some very good players ,even more ,when Bernardo is leaving and so might Rodri.

Well if anyone had bothered to do any sort of research at all they would have seen the exact player Reijnders is and wouldn't be so critical of him for things he has always been crap at.

The bloke scored goals and got assists for fun at Milan but he comes here and people are asking why he cant tackle. 15 G/A this year, probably could have grabbed another 10 as well if he had a bit of luck.
