North Stand expansion | Trial Event - Wed 20th May (p110)

I am surprised about the lack of interest from the so called local supporters who brag about being loyal but will not support this event. It strikes me that the club needs support from the out of town fans and tourist to give them the gates the club requires. You'going to get a pint and and pie, which sounds better than a Tesco meal deal.

What’s the incentive?

I’m Dukinfield so local enough but have the mither of getting to the ground on match day as it is.

I’m south stand lower season ticket and have no intention of moving. Not interested in seeing the new stand either.

Why am I going to pay for the pleasure of messing about with the tram and watching a cheese fest put on by the club.

So if you go to a test event, that makes you loyal?

The is a wider point, but it’s The same club that has often shown little to no loyalty to local fans, often pricing them out. What were you expecting?

All these locals weren’t just going to come running back instantly. It can take years to rebuild that connection.

I don't think anyone can criticise the club for this. They're doing all they can to open it up for the final game of the season. Unfortunately due to timing this is the last opportunity and as a result they can't offer more than some token City related benefits. They have to charge people to ensure they turn up and hit the required numbers to pass the test, in exchange you get food/drink which will be to that value anyway.

Had there been a youth game or a possibility to screen the first team's game at Bournemouth in there I'm sure they would have tried to do that. But they've run out of time and are just trying their best to make the final home game a real occasion with the stand full for the first time.

See they are begging people to attend but still charging.

A lot who paid £5 or £3 won't bother, as there is still no incentive to turn up. 3,500 in a queue to have a photo with the Milk Cup, not really a big USP.
What’s the Milk Cup grandad?

For every person that attends, that's two seats that can open for the Villa game.

A big day where we could still be in with a hope of winning the title (and treble), saying bye to Bernardo and Stones, and creating a memorable final day and stand opening atmosphere.

To me, that is the incentive. Everything else is a bonus.

Could have opened it up to a wider base. There have been dozens of people just on here alone saying they want to go but can't get a ticket, that'll be the case in the wider fanbase too. Wonder if the villa game will be as limited.

If it was 1996 then it might be full. But it’s 2026, people are a lot more stretched time wise and there’s basically a load of other things to do instead.

£5 in return for a pie and a pint? I personally wouldn’t turn up if they paid me and gave me a pie and pint on top for free. My free time is more valuable than that.

This isn’t a criticism of the club, more an observation of life in 2026.

They can't win on these things though mate. Had they done that you might have had season ticket holders getting pissed off that they've not had priority despite investing far more into the club than members.

What they needed to do, but because of timescales probably couldn't immediately, is give more details on what is going on. Give the names of the former players who will be there and just try and whet the appetite a bit more.

But ultimately the build is behind schedule and someone's decided they'll go for broke and try and get it full for the final game. We had more of a chance for the title then and the idea of a full North Stand on the final day with the league title up for grabs was worth the rush to get it open. It still is in my opinion.

If it was 1996 at Maine Road we'd have had more in the locality who would have rocked up. But they'd still have turned up and whinged about how shit it looked!

I don't think City fans are different to any other group, but we'd whinge about just about anything.

You could host the FA Cup semi final at the Etihad and you'd have a thread on here about how shit that is for everyone.

Makes sense for local families/ kids, but I would have thought most of the people moving into the stand will be adults.

If they wanted to fill it with whoever, they should have given out tickets to schools perhaps
Probably should have done this on the Tuesday evening and screened the Bournemouth match instead.
