Crystal Palace (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

You tell me, i posted that well before your post. You just confirmed what I posted virtually to the letter.
That makes no sense, but FWIW when I say a "proper Pep team" I don't mean playing the strongest XI tonight, I had no issue with the team selection as the 2-0 h/t scoreline showed. My issue is the approach from the current group, whoever is playing, to not have the killer instinct that Pep's peak teams in previous years have had, who would have gone for the jugular tonight, and who would have absolutely finished off some of the games that we ended up drawing over the course of this season.

So what do you think arsenal will beat Burnley by?
I don't think it will be more than five.
Doesn't matter, unless they draw at Palace. Only then does goal difference come into it assuming we win our last two.

We did win 3-0, and as far as I could see we were playing to score more goals. A pity that Savinho cramped up at the end. I wanted a 4th goal. I am wary of Arsenal battering Burnley. I want to be in touching distance of Arsenal's GD on the final day. I want City to be able to score first at home to Villa, and send the fear of God into Arsenal.

Well Burnley have let in more goals than anyone else.
Arsenal have let in the least.
Arsenal are at home.
We have a +1 goal difference after today.
We have a tricky away game against a team on a winning run better than ours.
They have final game against a team in a final a few days later. We have Villa.
If they slip up and draw its GD if we win.Optimistic me says their GD will be more + than ours.
Doomongering!!!! :)

If Pep really thought we had a chance he wouldn’t have picked that side.
You haven’t seen our schedule, have you? Today was City’s 56th match of the season. By the time we face Chelsea in the FA Cup final in London on Saturday, they’ll have enjoyed a full week’s rest.

Our game is away, theirs is local—effectively costing us another day from an already compressed prep window. Tomorrow is MD+1: recovery and medical checks, leaving just two days for actual training.

If Pep hadn’t rotated key players, their fatigue would’ve been obvious in the first half of the final—and the same voices would’ve accused him of sacrificing the cup for a doomed league chase.

Pep can’t win.

Yeah 3-0 was the bare minimum for me at the start of the second half. I wanted at least 4, we are good enough to have got more. There was a lot of foot-on-the-ball slowing things down type of football from us in periods I felt we should have been cranking up the pressure. But hey ho, the last two home games this week have seen up the GD by +6 so I would have taken that before hand.

There's always a chance. I always look for the positives, bored of all these who are moaning about we could have won it if we'd won this match or if we'd won that match instead of showing some appreciation for a team in transition, key players missing, some barely out of their teens that's given us one trophy, hopefully another on Saturday and taken the title race to within 2 matches, maybe even the final day if we win in Tuesday. That should be applauded, not criticised.
Agree 100% with what you say.
We have been amazing and recent results are making up for slack performances in games earlier in the season when leading and bossing games we went away with just a point.
Transition or not we are a game or so away from another title and goal difference could be it.If we lose it by a goal you may then look back at the kickabout in the second half tonight.

Well to explain, i posted this comment earlier:

"How much do you want to bet all the melts will be saying that was a missed opportunity, that we should have played the first XI and scored six."

And lo an behold you came along and fulfilled my prophecy.

It's a dumb argument to say we should have scored x amount in this game or that game, if it was that easy clubs would have been doing it for decades. The reality is you can run yourself ragged and by the end if the season you're entire squad is worn out. That, more than anything else, is why Arsenal have imploded for the last few seasons, they've tried to play every match at 100mph and run out of steam.

This is what many fans don't seem to understand, if you're a top club you can't play 60 or so matches a season and expect to go heel for leather in every match. It creates burnout, it causes injuries, then when you need the energy for the final push you have none left. We've seen it in the cup final v Wigan, v the rags, v Palace, the players are exhausted. You can't do it.

Happyclapper!!!!! :)

Happyclapper!!!!! :)
Don't have a problem with that, id rather be like that then whinging all the time like some on here, even after a win. Can't figure out how some of them get any enjoyment out of it at all.

Can't speak for anybody else but I've had the time off my life for the past 15 years, but I also accept we can't win everything every season.

We can do a treble this season mate.

I would have liked to have seen more goals. At least one. Two would have been super solid and made Arsenal really have to come out and all out attack Burnley. But key players got rest. Pep prioritizing FA Cup Final.

As far as Burnley goes - its certainly possible. Depends on what Burnley wants to do? Just drop back and say, "score if you can". Or do they try and play them. I'm thinking low block. I would also hope, perhaps its just a fantasy. But i would also hope that - after all the controversy surrounding the goal disallowed in the West Ham game, that the refs would do right to be careful with all the goalie blocking crap and not give Arse a free one. The soccer gods demand a sacrifice. Perhaps we will get one on Monday.

You are far too rational for BM
