Other teams have done the domestic cup double in previous seasons, so surely they must also have won every single cup match that season?
Am I missing something?
 
It’s mad to have watched the ‘81 final defeat as a 9 year old and then wait 30 years for another one, roll on 15 years later and we have 7 more appearances with 4 victories.

Not forgetting 8 league titles, 7 league cups and a champions league. I think it is safe to say we have made up for lost time!

  • no draws requiring replays,
  • no penalty-shootout eliminations survived after draws,
  • no losses over two-legged ties,
  • simply winning every match played in both competitions.

I can only think that the two-leg semi final of the LC was lost/won on the way to winning it. Pretty sure in 2020 City beat United, then lost the home leg but still progressed to the final. The mega covid spreader final.

Yeah - I often find myself wincing a lot when he opens his mouth.

Of all the ex-City players they could have picked to work as a "pundit" they go and choose the most obtuse of them.

I’m guessing they either didn’t win both legs of the league cup semi final,or drew a game in the fa cup or league cup earlier round going to a replay
 
Sty radio news at 9:00 this morning didn’t mention our victory yesterday, but it had time to announce that the Kremlin dwellers are about to confirm Alonso as their next coach.

There isn’t "much work" to do with the squad this summer.

Many of those who have come in over the last 18 months are still young, and are improving match by match.

Donnarumma, Foden, Guéhi, Gvardiol and Håland are all just into their mid-twenties, and they are among the most senior members of the group.

A few additions might be needed, with John and Bernie moving on, but overall, the squad is in pretty good shape, IMHO.

Including Marmoush in the starting line up didn’t work. Left City very open in midfield, it didn’t give City the opportunity to create with him standing on Chelsea’s back line next to Haaland.

The subs injected a bit of urgency into City’s play. Credit to Haaland for picking up the pieces of the lose ball and then making space to get the ball into Semenyo.

As you say still a lot of work to do with this team. Middle of the pitch needs a lot of focus with Bernardo leaving, Foden not being able to find form to get in the starting 11 and Rodri looking like he doesn’t have the capability to be fit for long periods of the season.
