Pep to leave at the end of the season

I don't think Pep will give a shit about a send off, but the club would want to give him a big one.

For me it's as simple as the fact there's a World Cup which prevents a new manager having time to prepare the squad this summer. It doesn't make sense from a strategic perspective and the club will have seen from other sides how critical it is to give someone the time to come in and work with a squad to move forwards.

Pep won't leave us at a time that doesn't suit us too. He's got a year left and I hope he extends.
I think he does.

Under it all, he has an ego and will want to be praised from everyone in England and given a proper send off from City I'd have imagined

One other thought though, I can't believe that Pep will leave before we get the 115 news. I believe that he does love the club and will want to be here for the press conferences afterwards.

Now I guess that there's a chance that verdict comes after the season ends and before the World Cup, there's a "window" there. But I certainly dont think he'll be announcing after the last match, when we don't have a verdict, that's he's leaving.

I personally think he is off. He didn't want to leave the club in a mess previously hence extended last year. I think he sees great potential and can leave knowing there is a good group here that can push for trophies. I think they have not wanted to say anything to take the attention away from the title run it.

But you never know with Pep - he may just do just end of staying.

The implied probability from betting odds for City to win the league is 20% City and 80% Arsenal.

My "feeling" (who the fuck cares about someone else's feeling including mine) from the different signals is 20% he stays and 80% he goes.

If both 20%ers come through this is going to be one hell of a week :)

I unfortunately think it’s perfect timing for Pep. First you have Euro 2028 in the UK & Ireland, with group games in Manchester and the final at Wembley, then the 2030 World Cup in Spain with the final at Camp Nou. The logical step would probably be for him to take over the Spanish national team. So he’d have the chance to add both a Euros and a World Cup to his list of titles — and potentially win them both on what are essentially his home grounds.
He won’t manage Spain, imo.

He will have a break whether he leaves this summer or next summer and then get ready for the 2030 World Cup.

He’s going. Maresca for a year, maybe two. Will win nothing, paving the way for Vinny to take over.

No one wants to follow pep.
Yeah that’s the spirit.

I hope this fan base doesn’t turn cuntish and turn on Maresca before he’s even started. Get behind the man. United fans treat Moyes badly, 13 years on and they are still a shambles. Who ever is our next manager, we have to be behind him.

This is the part I find hard to get my head round. Media suggesting this year or that he sees out his contract - but also saying he loves this team and is full of energy. Sounds to me as much like him signing a new contract as leaving, but we'll find out soon enough I guess.

However, I just heard the other day though that our final game of the season v Villa he overtakes Les McDowall as having been in charge of City for the most matches. The new stand (named after him?) and beating that record might be a fitting way to go.

In terms of Maresca, I don't mind. He's obviously worked with Pep and has tactical similarities, did well with Leicester - a mixed bag at Chelsea, but that club is mental. Vinny has shown though at Bayern that struggling somewhere doesn't mean you can't succeed at a big club.
As I keep saying, it's all just tea leaves mate.

People are attributing tangential things like 'a fitting way to go', '10 years is a nice round number', 'will go with backroom staff' 'parade/stand opening/co-op party etc must mean goodbye'.

Pep is imho simpler than that. He is either happy and the energy is there from both him and the team. Or he isn't. I don't think matter to him whether that's year 10, 11, 13 or 21, he is not governed by round numbers, or things like the above.

If I was to read into it, I think he may have had a wobble in dec/jan.

Last season saw us hit a low he hasn't experienced before. But he then got us back to a strong finish in the table, and getting robbed of a trophy. New signings, young players, bit of a partial rebuild, and dec/jan we weren't where he wanted us. So he may have spoken to the club to give enough time to plan ahead if he can'tget the best out of them, and they may have then spoken to Maresca in case. And the rumours started.

Since then though, things have clicked, we have won two trophies, the energy is there, we are going on long solid runs of results. I think he has now decided to stick around, he seems resolute, full of energy, and he openly talks about next season. When pushed on it, he says as much as he needs to. Everything else will come at the right time imo.

Pep won't change a habit of a lifetime by announcing it last minute. If he was leaving it would have been officially announced by now, regardless of us being in a title challenge or not.
I defo take your point and hope to god you're right but "a habit of a lifetime" is doing a bit of heavy lifting. He's only ever had 2 jobs prior and they were 4 and 3 year stints. We're in unchartered territory, there is no precedent for how Pep leaves after being somewhere for 10 years.

There is also no reason to think it's any different for 10 years than 3 or 4.

It just feels like a really boring appointment. His football at Chelsea was really uninspired.

If he’s the man we need to all back him. Remember Maresca is a young coach, and he could very much surprise us.

Nobody here wanted Kompany after his Burnley stint, now there is loads of clamour for him to be our next manager.

Luis Enrique similarly. Barcelona gave him the job off the back of a 7th placed finish with Roma, then a 9th placed finish with Celta. But he won a treble in his first season…

All the reports I've read are "PEP TO LEAVE END OF SEASON, but the manager is yet to make his decision" "BACKROOM STAFF KNOW MANAGERS DECISION, but Pep himself is yet to comment on the topic". Poor journalism everyone trying to be the first to have the scoop but putting in a little bit to save face in case he flips. The fact is no one knows his decision, I rate he sees out his contract and has a proper farewell tour not just a random announcement with 1 game left.

In fairness, he left Barcelona very late. The players have said they all knew well before Pep made it official.

There won't be any bridge appointment
Pellegrini wasn't a bridge appointment either. He was a 'hollistic' appointment.

But on day one, he stated the expectations on from the club. Pop quiz if you still remember it..

Of course I'll back him. I just personally didn't enjoy watching his Chelsea team particularly great to watch. I feel he's a very cautious manager and sets his teams up quite negatively.

If/when he gets the job he'll have my full backing.

They are repeating the same stuff they have been since the start of the year. Nothing has changed. Repeating it doesn't make it any more right.

And loose expectation over a longer period doesn't become any stronger as the time goes by. If anything, it arguably becomes weaker.
