Pep to leave at the end of the season

But compared to how they've looked since he left, they looked pretty well coached.

He had them playing better than anyone since has. The problems there aren't the touchline. It's the guys that actually kick the ball.

(And I want *nothing* to do with any of them, FWIW. I really hope Maresca doesn't bring a couple of those guys over. Nothing good will come of that.)
I'd take Palmer back.

I guarantee you won’t be able to sleep, I’ve put the phone down twice already and picked it up again.

I haven’t felt this bad since my Dad died 9 years ago.
My dad died 6 months ago, it’s his birthday today and I’m pretty fucking far from ready to trade Pep for Maresca

Not sure our top players will respect him. I can’t help think this could be the start of some of our top players wanting something new. We really need a manager that has been successful, won trophies and that has the aura of Pep. An Enrique,a Zidane or Emery. Just don’t see it with Maresca.
This was always going to be a problem. Doesn’t matter who you bring in.

We’ll be fine.

It's crazy how quick these 10 years have gone! It's been incredible. I can't thank the man enough, and I'm pretty certain he understands how we feel about him.

When he first came everyone outside of the club gave him 2 or 3 years max, so to get 10 wonderful years out of him feels a privilege to me. We are privileged to have lived through our greatest ever period. Us of a certain age will forever pinch ourselves as to where we have come from. It's been insane.

If this is end of his journey here then Pep I thank you and I wish you good luck.

I think you're underestimating the club. Maresca won the Euro Conference and CWC at Chelsea and finished 4th. That doesn't sound too impressive if you're comparing it with what we're used to, but that was at a club that was (and is again) in a mess despite the money they have spent, and in his first season before he'd had the time to really put his stamp on the club.

Don't forget this is a manager that worked with Pep so he's not an unknown quantity, the club know exactly what they are getting and it sounds more and more like this was a done deal back in February. We have to move on if it's true, we have to get on with it but this is the best run club in the country, probably one of the best in the world, and I have every faith in them. We could have folded like the rags did after ferguson or Liverpool did after Klopp when we changed managers previously, but we didn't and those at the top now have a lot more experience. We'll still be the team to beat.
Assuming Pep does leave and remember how many fantastic players will have also left in the last couple of years - then what has been the most extraordinary ten years will be finished and I doubt ever to be replicated.
I agree Maresca looks like a good fit but the expertise and organisation behind the club will be in keeping us competing at the top. Going for top 4 and hunting trophies but football history shows you very rarely if at all replicate what Pep had done.
Whilst we will no doubt still attract top players, no doubt others will too. So it’s going to be interesting.
But we have sat at the top of football for a decade plus and gorged ourselves on drama and glory, enough to satisfy a lifetime.

Could, as unlikely as this ever would be, both be sort of true, Pep continues a role of some sort (as He has kept saying, He has a Year on his contract, doesn't mean it has to be as Manager) but Maresca comes in?
Worst thing we could do is hang on to Pep like the Rags have Ferguson. Horrible way to go about things.

It isn't the notice that's the problem it's hearing it from the shitehouse media first, especially the mail.
Fair enough but mate, gotta say, it’s not news that’s surprised me at all, so it doesn’t really bother me that much about the timing or how it’s leaked out. It’s just not important in the grand scheme of things. Was bound to happen, so it is what it is really. I’m struggling to get angry about that, even though I dislike Holt etc as much as you do.

What would be his actual role? We already have Viana?

everyone saying disappointed with maresca but nobody saying better name and available
real madrid so called biggest draw has got moanhio and they usually get who they want

Now that most have finally accepted he’s off i just think we all have to acknowledge it’s always going to be a step down and anyone is going to be underwhelming. Vinny would get everyone buzzing with nostalgia to what he means to the club but as we are still quite a young team in a bit of transition I think it’s right he’s not the one straight after pep and that he does another year or 2 racking up trophies and managing big names at Bayern.

Luis Enrique right now is unrealistic and nobody else is even in the same ball park as Guardiola. If we appoint Maresca the good thing for us is this:

Mikel Arteta
Arne Slott
Michael Carrick!!

I actually believe Aston Villa will have the best manager in the league.
