The show us your cat thread.

So got update on phoenix yesterday. We agreed with vet chemo not an realistic option due to age and other existing conditions.

We've stopped her arthritis meds and after 2 days break she'll start steroids on Friday as part of palliative care. The hope is these will help increase her red blood cell count but on flip side her arthritis won't deteriorate too much.

To be reassessed next week and if either red blood cells not increasing enough or arthritis worse then decision will be made to put her to sleep

My heart is truly breaking but watching her over last 2/3 weeks I know it's what's best for her which is the most important thing

If you have to say goodbye the vet will let you be with her till the end. She will know and it will be peaceful. Consider taking a few bits of her fur to keep at home - we've done that for cats we've had to let go (never opened the envelopes again, mind.)

That said, hope the treatment gives her better health for a while yet.

I know just how you feel mate, been there a few times.
I know it's hard but as you say you have to do what's best for her.
Thoughts are with you.

Sending you a virtual hug, this is a tough place to be. We know when we adopt pets that there will be heartbreak in the end but that is no reason not to do it, the love that you get back from them is beautiful. Cats give you love on their terms and having a cat kneading you and purring is one of my favourite things, i have natured all mine from very tiny to talk back to me and enjoy affection and they have all been cuddle bugs, merlin wasn't very cuddly until he was left on his own when i was in hospital last year, now he cant get enough cuddles

Enjoy as many cuddles as you can with her and if it is time you can hold her so she is not afraid, it is very peaceful and if she could talk she would say thank you

Much love xxx

I see that Larry the Downing Street cat has narrated a personal tribute to Sir David Attenborough and posted it on youtube for his 100th birthday.
Well done and well deserved.

Two beautiful boys rescued. 13 months old and have settled in well.

We lost our dogs and decided we wanted animal friends again. Our young twins benefit from having wonderful pets.

Our mates on their own sofa, and well deserved.

Dogs will have to wait due to my work.

Merlin is in the dog house at the minute as yesterday now he took a shit all over my bed sheets, just when i think he is less stressed now the house is empty of trades people and not much going on outside he goes and does another poo not in his tray, i have collapsed a lot this last week with something i got from the cardiac and respiratory arrest and i have been sleeping 12hrs or more most days and nite so he is not getting fed on time and he must worry he cant wake me up

Until i get a better plan for these seizures
( neurology on Friday ) then he wont be calm despite the felliway plug ins next to-his food and spray catnip as well, i haven't tried it around his tray, i will do this now

I love him so much and hate seeing him like this, he has to go for vaccinations asap but he is terrified so might leave it till next week, he has lost so much weight as well, poor bugger

Wee update on Phoenix. Been on steroids now for 2 weeks as part of her palliative care. Vet said be weeks rather than months now. Had more bloods done yesterday to see if any changes to red blood cell count.

Eating non stop and also drinking and pi55ing lot more. Pi55 stinks as she now has a UTI which is another side effect of the steroids

Just basically sleeping or eating all day. Part of that might be heat. Was very unsettled during the night and I got up to sit with her from 1 to 3.30. She didn't want food, her tray was clean and she just lay at my feet as I lay on sofa.

We are going away tomorrow for a week so friend of my other half coming to stay and look after her. We did contemplate not going

Giving her as much love, care, attention and cuddles as I can. Currently asleep at my feet

Make sure the friend has the vet's number. Maybe get her to send you video updates every day.
