16 | Rodri 2025/26

Marca going back on this tonight

Rodri, crazy to join: Pep Guardiola's departure, barring a radical last-minute twist, opens a door that for years remained completely closed to Madrid

I think it would be bordering on madness to give him a skew deal as one of the clubs’ highest earners - look at him!

Web over played him over the years and ran him into the ground. We may see glimpses of the old Rodri but the idea of seeing a fully fit, 50+ game a season, world beating midfielder again, seems far fetched. Unless the new manager figures a way to construct a midfield that isn’t so heavily reliant on him

Wouldn't be surprised if he had a great tournament as Spain captain.

As often happens, some are quick to write him off.

Our best period this season was with him in the team: from Arsenal in the cup final to Arsenal in the league. Losing him and Dias in the final weeks of the season cost us the league.

I hope he stays, but if Pep is leaving I can see him deciding the moment is right for him to return to Spain.

We’ve had him for seven seasons, and I’d argue that (given he turns 30 next month, and hasn’t fully got back to his best after a bad injury) we’ve had him for his best years.

Given we’re likely looking at a squad refresh under a new Manager this summer, I could see the logic in fleecing Madrid and looking at replacing Rodri with a younger, more mobile version.

One of our greatest ever players, and a proper City legend given some of the huge moments he’s had for us - and I’d love him to stay - but I’m not as against this move as I thought I might have been.

He had a few heavy seasons with Villarreal and Atletico Madrid before us as well. Turns 30 next month, so can he get back to 3,500 minutes+ for two consecutive seasons? Big decision both for him and for us.

I thought he was fine in the first half last night, but not great at wembley. He's clearly not 100% fit at the moment with whatever problem he's had recently.

As for him staying, I'm not bothered either way, I don't think he'll ever be back to his best, it's very rare after an ACL injury that a player does.

I'd prioritise getting in a replacement this summer either way.

Much mor likely to leave on a free next year than this summer

Cant expect us to accept a modest fee, and dont see Real Madrid paying a big fee for a 30 year old unless they themselves can make some big sales

Keep for one more season and see if he can get back up to speed. Finding a new Rodri is going to take time.
And let him go on a free? He us not resigning at this point. Id he isnt resigning, i say sell at this summer. He has served us well. But i see no reason to nurse him neck to full health just for him to leave on a free.

Our post-Peo restock has to be ruthless. 23 dont hqve the Pep edge anymore. We need to be active and front footed.

We can pray Maresca turns out special. But mote likely than not, hed be decent but amongst the pack. So we need to atay agead on talent to.matvg orher teams..

Yes let him go on a free. He has earnt that right. Same with all our stars over past seasons.

I think your keyboard is knackered.

I wouldn't hold him if he'd rather move now. Get a fee and start the rebuild.
Madrid aren't going to be rushing to pay us a fee and with the World Cup etc perhaps Rodri won't want more upheaval in his life. Finish next year and go on a free, big signing fee in his back pocket and maybe walks away with more titles in England to further cement his legacy.

We won't get much of a fee to begin with. He has missed near enough two seasons and is slowly coming back to full fitness. I would rather Rodri continuing his rehabilitation at City than Real Madrid.
