Pep to leave at the end of the season

If Pep was minded and determined to leave, he had the perfect opportunity at the post Bournemouth press conference to say so. Instead he says that he has a year on his contract and wants to discuss his future with Khaldoon.

IMO, if Pep is absolutely set on leaving at the end of his current contract, and City really like Maresca, then we should break now, but if Pep is open-minded about his future, then we should stick with Pep. It is very confusing for fans to read, because the press statements are so strong, and we are not fully informed.

You would think that the media would run their stories by City before going in so hard with their claim that Pep is leaving but there does not seem to be that club-media relationship, possibly because Khaldoon runs City differently to other clubs ithe.e., he is a chairman with multiple roles, and it is genuinely difficult for journalists to understand City's position. In short, I think, like Tolmie, that the press story is Maresca sourced, and as such fallible.
The press couldn't care less about City, they will stick the knife in print what they want, like they always have.

Maresca career if we don't give him this job will be something like this:
Napoli or Juve, eventually fired in 18 months months. Then maybe another PL tint at Brighton, Bournemouth etc.
Still better than Potter or Rosenior career will be but don't think Maresca is all that.

Really prefer someone with some CL experience of getting teams far. Maresca never managed in CL did he. This is not conference league where you play rapid Wien and djurgarden from Sweden in KO stages we must finish high up in league stage to avoid early exit again.

Thinking the media give a shit about City is hilarious. They're just interested in sticking the boot in & creating as much clickbait as possible

The problem with this post is this isn't an in the know snippet, its Tolmie hypothesising. Yet because he's known as the in the know guy it will be taken as gospel and it's unhelpful for the new guy coming in painting him as a snake already.
I’ve been reading Tolmie’s posts for a long time. If it’s his own opinion he normally makes that clear. Right or wrong that reads like he has been told something rather than invention but that is just my opinion.

Maybe he will clear it up.

Maybe that wasn’t how he wanted to announce it. I would imagine that this leaked story has angered Pep and the city board and the result of this is one of two things: push ahead with the planned announcement or come up with a new exit strategy, which could involve an extension.

Abandoning a transition process that has seemingly being going on for months just to get one over on the press or give Pep the perfect exit narrative is actually a bad thing.

What happens next time he wants to leave?

The season's over, the big send off is in a few days, everyone needs to crack on.

It was kept quiet out of the public sphere for months and we were still crap in the league.

We have the makings of an excellent young squad but the central midfield has been sluggish and ineffective for big chunks of this season. There will be an overhaul so let's just let the new coach get on with it.

I love Pep and we'll never see anything like the past 10 years again, but if the plan was to go leave then he should go. Pep's fairytale ending is not more important than the long term planning and stability of the club.

What KoolHand Khaldoon should tell Pep is that he should stay for the extra year alongside Maresca or Allardyce, whichever one takes up the struggle, just as they did with Hugo and Txiki, and when we're ten points clear by Xmas Pep can then bugger off to his castillo in Catalan.

Would it not be similar to how Viana took over from Txiki

I dont think it's a bad idea at all. He's already been an assistant at City. If he had stayed and was then promoted it wouldn't be an issue. As you say, it happened with Viana and Txikik. Important thing is we get the transition right, whatever the optics.

I seem to agree with this. Pep leaving now may benefit us in the long haul.

I don't see him talking to other clubs as being a snake.
If pep is still undecided and the club has made plans with Maresca if pep leaves it's stands to reason that Maresca can make plans if Pep stays.

Honestly cant fathom why so many people would want to what we've seen over the past 2 days dragged out over the course of another full season lol.

Also, feel like it would probably be better for incoming players to arrive at the beginning of something rather than feel like theyre arriving at the tail end of something. I want hungry players arriving to build a new era rather than for a walk on part in Pep's last dance.

The idea that a coach like Maresca would want to come in for work experience with Pep for a year seems completely delulu to me. Hes already done that and is probably in regular contact with him anyway. That's why he's been chosen.
