EFL Playoffs time

Southampton just released a new statment there's a lot to take in but it says

WHAT ABOUT MANCHESTER CITY
No longer works bud i got caught shoplifting last night and when i asked the copper what about Man City he still banged up ffs

Being based down south for the last 10+ years I have always had a bit of a soft spot for saints. Have been to a few games, all my friends and work colleagues here support them.

That said the last two City Saints games I’ve been given absolute vile abuse by their fans and I know this maybe isnt a fair reflection of them as a fan base because this happens at football all the time.

But Wembley recently was a joke, the amount of fans that squared up to me all whilst I was stood next to the police as I was waiting for friends at a nearby car park.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.
30 years in my case! I'm in the same boat and will go and give them a watch for shits and giggles occasionally, but I agree that their fans can be a bit more feral than you'd expect. They'd worked themselves up into a froth over the semi so getting beat seemed to really trigger them.

A couple of years ago I went to see them play Watford at St Mary's in the Championship with a Horns-supporting mate. I was expecting he's comp me a prawn-sandwich seat but the bastard had me in the away end near the segregation line. I took more abuse that day than at any other match I've ever attended. And the game was gash.

There's this image that Hampshire is all Waitrose and Volvo XC90s. That's where I live :-P, but Southampton and Pompey are both tough old working cities, some of the ex-army towns like Aldershot and Bordon are bleak as fuck and Andover is fond of a good murder.

Before Saturday?
Logistically impossible, you're right. But morally, why should Boro step straight into the final when other teams have been equally affected?

And what about Hull's preparation - do they split their training 50/50 'if we play one, do this, if we play the other, do this'

It is disgraceful that the EFL were aware of this before the first leg, yet have dragged their heels until yesterday, eating up any time they may have had to rearrange fixtures - including the final.

I have been to a few training grounds and most of them have tall hedges or fences to make it virtually impossible to “spy”. It should be down to a club to not give the opportunity to have unwanted observers.

That's the same logic that weirdos use when they blame women in short skirts when they get assaulted.

What he did is against the rules and he was stood on private land. It doesn't matter if there was no hedge, he was breaking EFL rules and also stood on private land. Every aspect of it was against the rules.

Hilarious that you bring up such a heinous comment to attempt to make a point that has nothing to do with the conversation.

Only way to decide this is for a Boro vs Soton Hell in a Cell rematch on neutral ground.

Cell round the pitch
Ball can’t go out of play
No fouls outside the penalty areas
No stoppages for injuries

Winner faces Hull.

Saying things like “you’re still missing the point” don’t further your argument.

You are seemingly incapable of understanding the concept of proportionality. And seemingly also struggling with reading comprehension because you seem to think I am saying Southampton didn’t do anything wrong.

Southampton cheated, yes. They should be punished, yes. The punishment given is totally disproportionate. That’s what I am saying.

I won’t bother breaking it down more granularly than that for you.

FFS.

I know that’s what you’re saying. Saying it 13 times doesn’t support further your position.

What punishment would you have given them?

Sounds like "2 men enter,1 man leaves".
Thunder Dome and Aunty have a lot to answer for !!

I do feel sorry for how heavy handed they've been treated regarding the punishment. (Cheating is cheating i know). It feels like anger towards other cheating clubs has resulted in the weight of expectation of a heavy punishment. And I do think the tribunal they have will find that too. I don't think they will be reinstated in the play offs though.

But wtf Chelsea got away with compared to this. Amazing really.

There’s no real punishment in this situation that doesn’t feel overly lenient or overly harsh.

One of Middlesbrough and Southampton were going to feel aggrieved whatever the punishment dished out.

Had they not expelled Southampton, then every club could decide to pay any fine for spying on their play off opponents to gain as much advantage as possible.

This expulsion probably stops any other club from trying it ever again.
