24 | Joško Gvardiol - 2025/26

Anyone really thinks he wants to leave? Haha. Not happening, critical for us and our project.

Sell him if he wants to go, then sign Maresca favourite Colwill. A few players will have signed purely to play for Pep, so there’s no point in keeping them against their will when he’s gone.

Him, Rodri, whoever - the new era is going to require everyone pulling in the right direction if it’s going to be a successful one, so draw a line under anybody who’s not fully committed to the club.

We've just rebuilt the squad, the last thing we need now is another season of transition, it'll be the third in a row.

Before the injury in January, Gvardiol was a monster, I can only compare him to prime Rodri (before injury) in terms of consistency and level and everything.

So keeping him must be the top priority, especially at this age.

But if sold, accepting less than 100m pounds will be a big crime.

The idea that you just let great players go because they might want to go is unproductive. Better try to convince them City are the best place for them.

Viana should be seriously busy in the summer. Giving up on our better players is not a serious option.

You think if Josko hadn't got injured he'd win the Balon d'Or then?

We would have definitely won PL and progressed further in CL

As for the Balon d'Or I don't know, last time CB won that title was 20 years ago.

But Gvardiol was playing at a very high level before the injury.

He'd cost far too much, hopefully its just him trying to get a better contract

If he does go, and thats a big if, we already have Dias, Guehi and Khusanov not to mention Reis. But also there are players on the market, Schlotterback, Bastoni, Colwill etc.

Like the link says, there’s absolutely no way Bayern are going to pay anywhere near the kind of fee we’d be looking at for a player who we paid £77m for only three years ago, is still just 24 with at least a decade of his peak years ahead of him, and who still has two years to run on his current deal.

Madrid definitely would, but Bayern have got no chance.

Either way - Josko is one of the players we need to be building our next great team around, so I hope the Club does everything in its power to convince him City is the only place he ever needs to be to fulfil all his ambitions in the game.

I can't see him going.

His passing from the back, something Maresca is also EXTREMELY keen on, will be too valuable to him.

Guehi, Dias and Khusanov arent as good.

i really hope he will stay and this is just a play by his agent to get better deal

We have proven on numerous occasions though we will let players go if that is what they want, we cant just demand 150m for someone and refuse to do business.

2yrs left on his deal, if he digs in and says im not signing a new one then why keep him around?

That was very much Txiki’s approach (supported by Pep, of course), but I sense Viana is a more uncompromising operator.

Either way, a Club would have to offer a huge sum this summer to convince us to sell when we’ve still got him on a two year deal.

Which Bayern just won’t be willing to do.

Not to mention we’re in a World Cup year, with a condensed window to find a replacement.

That changes in summer ‘27 if he still hasn’t signed an extension - granted - as our hand is nowhere near as strong.

But this summer, I just can’t see anyone bar Madrid chucking enough money at this deal to convince us.

Which was the point I was making.

On the same day, Bayern are linked with Gvardiol (100m) and Stones (free). Only the latter sounds remotely plausible, except for those tarting themselves for social media traction. Silly season is fully open.
