Pep to leave at the end of the season

It is quite emotional subject for many City fans as we love the fella. I appreciate you and some others have wanted him out for some time and you’re probably happy or not arsed one bit, but for many that is not the case. For me the comms around this has been pretty poor.
I appreciate that ,but the show goes on. I've lived long enough to see much worse events in life than Pep leaving. Perhaps he may return in the future. Qué sera sera.

It's not about wanting Pep out, it's about putting things into perspective. I have no desire to see him go but I know how well run the club is and if they have decided they're going to announce it at the end of the season then that's their prerogative and I see no reason why they should change that just because somebody decided to leak the news. If he's leaving, he's leaving, it doesn't change anything. You're not going to feel any better or worse at the end of it just because you don't have the patience to wait a few days.

The one thing people like you keep ignoring is that we're a team in transition
And 'people like you' keep missing the point. I was specifically focusing on our performance - as distinct from our results - whereas you waffle on about specific incidents that only affected results, not performance.

I don't buy into the idea that seasoned internationals should need 100 games to grow accustomed to a league. You think that we're doing really well, whereas I feel that whilst we have a couple of players who have improved things, as a team we have not 'transitioned' particularly far from where we were before the Jan '25 window.

The dreary plodding forwards/sideways with the ball and players whose second nature is to stop during a break and wait for others to catch up - oblivious to the fact that the opposition defence has regrouped in the meantime - all this was still evident during the run-in. We created more likely situations in the final 5 minutes against Bournemouth than we had in the rest of the match. Did we just learn how to do this, at that moment? Of course not - we voluntarily approached the game the same way we were doing 18 months ago. How some have the cheek to complain about how little extra time was played defeats me, when we'd happily run the clock down all game - despite knowing that we had to win.

Two trophies are great, of course - but as I said they were effectively the result of winning five tough ties across both competitions. I think that just means that we wrung nearly everything out of the season, considering our standard of play.

Way too many fans mistaking bad news for poor delivery of bad news.

So how do you think other managers cope who don't come in until the start of the following season, or come in half way through the season, or come in with a few games to go to try to save a club from the drop?
In those cases, the previous managers have been sacked, haven't they? The club/previous coach won't have had the luxury of sitting down and choosing when to pass on the baton.

You really think that's a parallel situation?

Of course he's made his mind up. Many of us saw through the "I'm staying interviews" before the Holt article. You then have the Bernardo interview after the FA Cup where he didn't shut down talk of him leaving (Guehi as well I think). And then all the talk around Maresca, and not just that he might takeover but length of contract etc.
I swear some of you will still believe he's staying even when he's not on the touchline next season!
No I just don't believe anything I the media

Forget the media’s role in all this.

How does the club prepare a farewell on such short notice? It’s not anyone’s fault, pep decides last min he going.

I don’t want him to just be that’s it but maybe that’s what’s gonna happen. I expected the club to acknowledge and celebrate his role in creating a dynasty.

So hopefully that’s the hold up. How to say goodbye properly.

What specifically do you mean by tourist chasing?
In my opinion:

How many ticket partners do we have? Why do we need them? Locals know that you want tickets you get them off city.

They have made buying tickets for local families prohibited by the prices they charge for one off games. They’re constantly pushing the club around the world and trying to entice “fans” to latch onto city. Why do people need a paid membership?

Look at any champions league game. The home stands are filled with people that aren’t really city fans, don’t get involved in the atmosphere and sit there taking videos all game. They will spend a weeks wages in the club shop though…

Maybe that's how Pep wants it, just to leave quietly and let Bernardo and Stones have the attention.

Maresca is Peo isn’t he?

The point is if Maresca would struggle to cope when he's likely to be taking over at the end of a season then I'm not exactly sure what you think the ideal time would be? It's not that difficult a question.

I buy matchday tickets it isn't difficult at all (it was 2 seasons ago) and if you aren't that bothered which games you go to not that expensive (again it was 2 seasons ago).Next season with the new stand will be easier still.

Fair enough and if that is correct, 10’s of thousands of match day fans will not be able to celebrate his tenure and success at the match on Sunday. We will with John and Bernardo but we can just ignore all the media reports with Pep and get on with it. Thousands will not be able to join the parade if it is announced after the game. So quick wave after the game and that’s it.

I've said a few times, if you think Pep wants a big occasion to make his farewell you don't know him at all.

He'd much prefer to leave quietly.

We want to give him a send off and the club will want to as well, but Pep will have prioritised the players. Making sure they're focussed, making sure they do their best on the pitch without distraction. Unfortunately, but unsurprisingly the news was leaked and we are where we are. He's probably had the conversation with Khaldoon now, but I'm sure he'd rather Bernardo and Stones get their applause and he stays in the shadows.

The club can't do a big event for him at this late notice. And if they were to, we'd have seen in the media the confirmation that he's going. They'd have contacted other managers, other players to do interviews and pay tribute to him. The fact that hasn't happened suggests his exit won't be marked this weekend and if he does leave anyway it will be marked on a separate occasion with or without him.

Or...he's still not confirmed his position to Khaldoon, but his position is realistically that he's going to leave.

Who said anything about seasoned internationals needing 100 games? You're making it up as you go. Besides, I'd hardly call Guehi, Semenyo, Khusanov, O'Reilly, and several others "seasoned internationals".

I also think it's absurd to suggest we haven't progressed farv since pre-January. Without the two signings I very much doubt we would have lifted either trophy or been in the title race for as long as we were, if at all. The reality is we're a young team in a transitional period yet a certain sector of fans on here seem to think that we can change half the squad, cope with key injuries yet still be winning trebles. If it were that easy everybody would be doing it.

If it hasn't been announced by then, it's perfectly obvious that it's 98% certain to be announced on Sunday. If people are that keen to get there they will, and most true fans will likely be there for the final match in any event.

Maybe they should have announced we weren't going to win at Bournemouth so people could choose in advance whether or not they wanted a ticket for what might have been a title decider?

It's as ridiculous an argument. If people want to be there that badly they will find a way, they will be there.
