Pep to leave at the end of the season

It's finally hit home with the announcement.

Absolutely gutted.

It's going to be emotional on Sunday.

Thanks for a great 10 years Pep, that was something special.

Whoever and whatever comes next may be a bit of a step backwards for a while, but we were good before Pep came and we’ll be fine going into the future.

As rich as the history of our club is, Guardiola’s decade will go down as the most transformative and identity defining periods in our club’s history.

He joined only 4 years after the Aguero moment. At the time, that felt like something of a relatively distant milestone in recent history. After all, for most clubs, 4 years would be enough time to fit in a fairly successful reign from one manager or a typical reign from two. The club had kicked on from the win with another two titles, a new manager, a refined style and a growing sense that we belonged among Europe’s elite.

But we still weren’t what we are today.

And that’s the strange feeling looking back now. In 2016, the Aguero moment already felt like part of our club’s recent past. But from where we sit today, Guardiola arriving only 4 years later now feels unbelievably close to it.

Because when you stop and think about everything that’s happened since, it’s hard to take in properly. The Centurions. Total domestic domination. The Treble. Four straight league titles. Players and football that will live with City fans forever.

Back then we were a club establishing itself at the very top level after decades of frustration, chaos and near misses. Somewhere along the line, we became the standard.

One day we’ll look back on it not just as a successful period, but as a period of our own lives. Certain players, certain goals, certain seasons, certain feelings attached to being younger and watching our club become something we once only hoped it could be. The strange thing about living through history is that while it’s happening, it just feels normal.

From January onwards of the Treble Season is the best period you will ever have as a City Fan.

Putting Arsenal back in their box in the league.

Battering Bayern & Real Madrid on the way to beating Inter in Istanbul.

Scoring within 13 seconds against the shite.

We truly felt unbeatable on and off the pitch.

I will forever say Pep has given me the best days of my life

I often read on here about teams 'setting up' like this against us, but having watched the match involved that's not always been the reason that we faced two lines of defence.

More often than not it's because of our slow build-up allowing the opposition to get back into position - I mean, what else are they supposed to do? Stand on the halfway line and watch us approach their area?

When the opposition are slow in their build-up, we also get behind the ball, but I never hear anybody on here ask 'why are we parking the bus?'

In Erling's first season, we did play at a proper tempo and he scored 50+. It wasn't a case of teams learning how play against us - obviously they all knew all about him from his Dortmund days - but after the World Cup break we changed how we played and have never gone back to that tempo. It worked out well, naturally, with the treble, but with fewer weapons these days we need to exploit him more, and that means pace.

If Sky still did 'playercam' it would be an eye-opener just watching how many times there are chances to play him in that are ignored.

Just to be clear, I do think our build up is often slower than it should be.

I have watched plenty of managers go to teams with higher aspirations based on them being regarded as managers whose teams produce fabulous attacking football and after they move to the better team. After they move to the better/more successful team, the football is slow and the attacking play blunt.

You only have to look at how many teams play five at the back against us and with multiple DMs, plus FBs playing as wingers. Look at the depth of opposition defenders when they have the ball near our area and you will see some teams drop an extra defender back. Our games against Chelsea are good examples of how teams change the way they play against us compared to pretty much everyone else.

I'm hoping for his press conference to end one last time with angry Pep.
Give it the cunts one last time on 115.
