The Squad planning thread

To my eye Reis could be the next Rodri. Nico Paz would be fantastic. O’Reilly is a utility player like Zabaleta. I think Cherki likes playing with Savinho and will help his game. Marmoush can go because Semenyo is currently a better option. People like Anderson. Foden should come around.

The future is blue.

It's a big summer with a new manager and the press will be circling like vultures. We will have so many players subbing us because Pep has gone or because his departure means we have lost on the charges.

Trust the club, with Khaldoon there we are in safe hands and we will get the players we need.

Marescas style probably doesnt suit him, usually its one holding midfielder and then an inverted full back to support
Be interesting to see how this plays.

Virtually all the midfielders mentioned so far would be suited to playing as a second midfielder next to Rodri (assuming he stays!).

But if, as is being touted, Maresca is likely to go (back) towards having a defender move up to become the second player at the base of the midfield, then perhaps this changes what we need: first, a defender that can do that well, and then second, a more creative player who can control the game higher up the pitch (David Silva, Gundogan)?

Which isn’t to say that Maresca will necessarily want to do this. There’s a video somewhere of him talking about using his full backs in the same way we’ve used O’Reilly this season (i.e. to get ahead of the midfielders in central areas), and being able to do that because of having two more orthodox midfielders in place. If that’s the model, then Anderson, for example, would make perfect sense.

Hopefully Maresca has a crystal clear vision of what he wants to do, so we have the best possible chance of getting the recruitment right.

Whatever else, feels like it could be a big summer!

We can't afford to lose Rodri next season, there's too many leaving as it is.

I don’t know how reliable he is but he’s seems to only say about info he’s got when certain and he’s bang on so far, but Martin from the city YouTube channel. Said from what he’s heard it’s family reasons why Rodri wants to go back to Spain.

I thought he’d stay for a the one more year but Martin said that the club won’t stand in Rodri’s way if he wants to go this summer.

Now it makes sense why Elliot Anderson is looking to be done but we are still linked to another midfielder

I can see Anderson getting done in the next two weeks
Viana will want to make a statement signing to get the Maresca era off to a fast start. Even if it means overpaying a bit
Also looks like United going for Ederson is either showing they are crazy because he is average or trying by to flush out Anderson to city

Would love us to get Kroupi Jr from Bournemouth. That lad has a real eye for goal and has a certain character about him. Can see him putting with 20 G/A numbers from next season.

IF marmoush wanted out (and I'm personally one who feels he needs maybe 1 more season), we should try replace with Kroupi. FOr sure, we can't let him go to the arses.

Aside from Anderson, ideally we get another CM/CDM, a RB to compete with Nunes and perhaps a new winger.

As for outgoings:

Grealish, Rico Lewis, Bernie, Stones are defo out. Marmoush, Savinho, Ake and Nico G unsure whether they will stay (personally like Ake to come on and steady ship at times).

Bournemouth arent selling him this summer mate and they also have european football as well.

Im only going off the stuff I've heard from him and the Chelsea fans, he commits to his style and doesn't compromise

Maybe he changes it up but its a fundamental part of how he plays, they all said he had no game management and ridgidly stuck to his structure even when it wasnt working (like Amorim)

Same thing Leicester fans said

His style removes full backs and relies on wingers playing high and wide and going 1 v 1 with a full back

In possession
Trafford
Nunes Dias Geuhi Gvardiol
Rodri NOR
Semenyo Cherki Doku
Haaland

Out:
Trafford
Dais Guehi Gvardiol
Nunes Rodri
Semenyo Cherki NOR Doku
Haaland

Cna see Anderson alternating with Rodri/NOR as he has showed he can play in aan advanced possession

Also think Nunes could swap out with Khusanov and let NOR invert from LB

Simon Phillips who is reliable for Chelsea news says that Cucurella could join us this summer as he’d welcome being reunited with Maresca over going to Spain.

He’d cost 40 to 50 million since he only has 2 years left on his contract

No thanks!

I think his girlfriend is still in Spain.

I think his girlfriend is still in Spain.
If she were training to be a surgeon, as reported, then that’s typically 10-12 years, which would mean qualifying around now, and if they were not intending on starting a family until after, that would similarly mean around now.
Still think we already have too many farewells planned this weekend, but unless they plan on settling in England, I can see him seeing out his contract.
