Anyone have ideas on his playing style with Leicester and Chelsea.

Must admit, I only watch City these days :-)

Are there similarities to Pep or are there likely to be differences in style.
It’s very similar to how we played in 2023 and won the treble.

Whether it’s still the winning formula, we’ll find out, unless he’s tweaked it in his time off.

I’ve been watching a few bits about his tactics, and philosophies directly from him.

Man marking, inverted ball playing full backs and overloads in key areas.

He’s clearly very talented, the job he did at Chelsea in hindsight was fantastic considering what has happened to them since he left.

He’s not Pep, no one could ever be, but given the time, space and a chance I'm hopeful he can do very well for us.

The only person with the personality, drive and charisma that that gets anywhere near Pep is Vinnie. He knows the club inside out and the style of play needed. He loves the club and the city and would be the ideal choice for me., though would he want to leave Bayern? Not sure.
Everyone loves Vinnie at City, but is he a good enough manager?

I still remember to this day, the feeling I had when Mancini took out that full page ad in the paper.

Seeing those 3 trophies, on the page. Just 3 (he says now)!

Back then, that felt like such an unfathomable immeasurable achievement. 3 trophies! The next guy is fucked, I thought, if we get to this again I'll be delighted.

And look where we are now. And how we look back at Mancini and Pelligrini's achievements, as if they were routine warm-ups.

Never take anything for granted, appreciate it all, I say to myself. The club know what they are doing, I trust it, and am looking forward to what is next.

But will he stick somebody upfront at corners instead of bringing everybody back to defend. Its an ancient tactic from a bygone time, a bit like taking a corner from inside the quadrant, actually taking a corner and getting it past the first man, whipping a cross in instead of rotating amd going sideways over and over again. All these things and more will we ever see again.

I have a feeling it will be much of the same. Just not as good which is expected. I am intrigued to see what he does actually change though, whether it’s playing around Haaland more or something else.

Well if Arteta can win a League with his negative tactics im sure Enzo can.Still gotta get past PGMOL @

Yes I did read he has a similar style, more slower in the build up. I understand the club trying to keep that continuity but if im honest I'd like to see a bit more urgency in our game these days. I think its a testament to how good Haaland is he manages to score so many with the build up we have when it's clearly not set up to get the best out of him.

More slower in the build up? Is that possible? Holy moly.

Good luck to Enzo. If he’s good enough for Khaldoon he’s good enough for me. Up the chuffing blues!
Our owners have appointed Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola in the 17 years they have had those decisions to make.

All three at least won a League Title and a Domestic Cup.

One has become our greatest ever servant, another is thought of so fondly by City fans that there’s still a connection 13 years after he was sacked (Jesus where’s time gone!), and the other is still thought of very well, obviously a stop gap but a successful one at that.

Let’s have a little faith.

When he comes realistically it is not an easy job. No top level professional management job is easy the competition is intense and has become more so as more and more clubs are getting savvy about who they hire.

Guardiola as a top level coach , quite possibly the best there has been has had the lowest two points totals of his career in the last two seasons.

Although we undoubtedly have a stronger squad this season than last is it strong enough?

Since having bought Rodri to the club Silva x2, Fernandinho, Gundoghan and KdB have all retired (Rodri may go according to some rumours). They have been replaced by Phillips,Nunes Kovacic, Gonzalez and Reindjers. So six of a collection of the best premiership midfielders ever have been replaced by players none of whom have managed to hold down a first team midfield place. It is a pretty big ask to get in that quality of midfielder in in one transfer window or to expect dominance without that quality however good a manager Maresca is. Rather than poor tactics or whatever it has been the fact that we have only had a partially fit Rodri and Bernardo for much of the season that Pep has not managed to exert his former dominance.

I hope Maresca will come in and do a great job and have absolutely nothing against his appointment but unless our midfield recruitment improves I think he will be trying to fight with one hand tied behind his back.
Absolutely spot on….maybe even from the Mancini days we had the best midfield in the Premiership until last season became one season too many for some of the trusted guard.

Although the quality had dropped, the surprising thing from Pep was/is the lack of numbers in the middle especially considering Pep’s previous self confessed obsession with the midfield.

This is where it’s crucial we strengthen with our transfers this season.
Over the last couple of seasons we have lost Gundogan (version 1) De Bruyne and now Silva plus Rodri for most of that period and an out of form Foden.

Hopefully City already know what’s needed and have identified the required quality.

I wonder when he gets announced by the club? Tomorrow after the dust of today has settled?
