The Squad planning thread

If we had to make the best team from what we've got, this would probably be it.

Donnaruma
Nunes Khusanov Guehi O'Reilly
Rodri González
Semenyo. Cherki Doku
Haaland

Not a bad team and if Rodri was back to his best it is a potential League winning side.

The flaw is the 2 midfielders. Rodri as he is not back to his best and the nagging doubt that Nico G is not quite as good as required.

The defence looks good and the attack whilst not PSG levels should be good enough domestically.

Our strongest XI is the best in the league. Our issues are that many of the back ups are not even mid table standard and we seem to get far too many injuries.

Lewis, Savinho, Marmoush and Reijnders all need to leave.

If I was the SD, I’d be super ruthless.
Released immediately:
Kovacic, Ake, Lewis, Reijnders, Marmoush
Would release but only with a replacement:
Nico G
Tell them to improve:
Foden (consistency), Savio (last chance), Semenyo (ball control), RAN
Renew:
Gvardiol, Rodri, Doku, Nunes
Loan (then eventually sold if needs be):
Alleyene, Nypan, Mukasa, Mfuni
Integrate:
Mcaidoo, Heskey

Sign:
Anderson, Maza, another CM/DM (if Rodri were to leave), Barcola (or any other winger, not a project), RB, new backup GK (if Trafford were to leave).

Out immediately: Lewis, Reijnders. Kova Ake, Sav, Alleyne, Mukasa

Serious questions about: Marmoush Semenyo, RAN, Dias

Needs back up/ competition : Nunes

Start planning for: Rodri
..he has 1-2 years left at the top max and may only be here a year anyway

Whoever doesn't fit Maresca's system is gone. He's ruthless just watching a few vids and interviews he has his system if you dont fit that system you are gone.

Semenyo does not need to improve in the set up that you have. He is the 3rd top scorer in the league as a winger.
Foden does not need to improve his ability. He needs to sort out whatever issue he has has.

On that basis Håland and Donnarumma also need to improve.

Lewis, Reindeers, Kova, Philips, Nico G, cut
Trafford own choice
Marmoush(where does he play)
Jack Akanji gone for a season
Bernie and John gone

Depends on Rodri and Josko signing up, Anderson whatever it takes, back up RB, back up keeper, needed whatever

OK, let start planning...

Out
£50m - Marmoush
£40m - Nico G (*I'd keep)
£30m - Savinho (*I'd keep unless we can get over 40m)
£30m - Reijnders
£20m - Rico Lewis
£20m - Grealish
£13m - Akanji (confirmed)
£15m - Bah
£15m - Echeverri
£15m - Kovacic
£10m - Ake
£5m - Kabore

Thats about £250m

Obviously if Nico G stays he doesnt need to be replaced, same for Marmoush

Didn't put Trafford aside think Maresca will want to keep, but say if he does go we're getting £40mil

Before incoming, the priority is that we extend the contracts of Gvardiol & Doku (and technically Foden who hasn't officially renewed)

Those are 2 players we need for the future

Also, for me, its non-negotiable we keep Rodri even if he doesnt extend. We can't let him leave

Then incoming obviously Anderson is key, plus a secondary bit less expensive (£50m-£60m) midfielder whether thats Maza or Mateus Fernandes etc.

Also Palestra sounds like an ideal signing, Read also would be good as the RB long term signing

We won't get any money for Grealish, he's on massive wages with one year left and didn't do anything on loan. He will be loaned again with us paying most of his wages. I doubt Lewis will get bids of £20m as well now, with him hardly playing in months and looking had when doing so. We should have cashed in last year on him.

Hopefully Maresca has been watching our games since first contacted by our club, and especially watched that 2nd half yesterday...

As it highlighted the issues we have within the squad with players in multiple positions that need a higher quality of replacements bringing in.

Bernies words post match said it bluntly...you have to look at the players who made our club successful, and want to emulate and carry on that desire and committment to be the best

i got it, Semenyo is not techie baller we are used to, but he's profile is goal scorer and he so far he is fulfilling he's role perfectly

i doubt we will sell RAN after one year, there is a great player in there, and i think he is a player Maresca would love

Marmoush - i heard that Enzo wants to keep him from LB and Martins co-stream

Dias, for me, is indeed in interesting situation - Khusanov might get a bigger role and i doubt City would like to keep him on such huge wages

Alleyne, Mukasa - on loan 100%

Reijnders in the same situation as RAN, although if offer comes, i think City will accept it

Lewis, Kova Ake, Sav - yea, i think they are gone

i also think Nico.G will be gone

Semrnyo needs to improve on the ball, even if you play him as a CF, he still needs to have basic ball control. Foden does need to improve, improving consistency is a thing. Never said he needs to improve ability.

Woudn't actually write off Rico Lewis just yet.

We know Maresca inverts his full backs so that'll suit Nico O'Reilly to a tee and we know Lewis can play the role pretty effectively too.
I think after yesterday’s performance, it’s a no for Rico. He was blowing out of his arse in the second half and was very poor positional wise. Don’t think he is at the level we need

Not strong enough, not quick enough.
He was so bad yesterday, particularly second half; although having not played any football will have harmed him.
But he was miles off it.

He should've played for the EDS at some stage to get some pitch time.

Yes he has fallen back, but think the premier league has left him behind as well not strong or quick enough for the league now, could have a very good career in a different league abroad though

Following yesterday's departures, our squad for next season currently consists of

CT 4/4
HG 3/4
NHG 15/17

Not including on loan senior players like Grealish Akanji and Phillips, who we can assume will have new clubs, or Berinneli whose contract expires.

On loan youth players like Reis, Echeverri, Nypan, Bah etc will need addressed too.

Of the current senior squad, the ones I see as most likely to leave are Kovacic and Ake.

The rest are either good enough or young enough to fight for their place, without needing the expense of replacing.
