Why / how does a 'wrong' image even exist in this situation?

Why even show a digitalised ‘image’ ? why not just show the real time photo of the play ‍

What I don’t get is why Watkins second wasn’t treated the same way as Fodens, Watkins is leaning so far forward checking the line I’m sure top of his barnet was offside. Where was the computer generated image then?

Watching it on tv they broadcast the 2nd image of Foden’s arse being offside. I was wondering why the players were then going mental and pointing up at the screen to the ref, something very bent happened yesterday for two images being produced to get the decision they wanted.

I think the onfield referee yesterday didn't know where to put himself when the image was projected. I'd seen the ref and assistant have a conversation when the goal was scored which seemed to conclude with a thumbs up from assistant - hence the onfield decision of goal - that one was all down to VAR. I hope the referee has had a go at whoever was manipulating images.

When it came up why did the ref stop & communicate to VAR & confirm if a mistake had happened?

What will a SAOT decision visual look like?​

Once the decision is made – a decision visual will be sent to broadcast, giant screens in stadiums and shared on the @PLMatchCentre X account.

This will feature a 3D virtual replay of the relevant players identifiable by each team’s kit.

An offside decision will be shown with a red line and onside with a green line. A white vertical wall will represent the offside line, with a blue "pulse" on the defender’s relevant body part.

When an attacker is offside, the part of their body which is offside will appear through the white wall and be outlined in red.

The final image in the virtual replay will be on an angle, off-centre, to provide a clear view of the attacker and defender involved in the offside review and the "pulse" will no longer be displayed.

There will be no overlay with broadcast footage – the replays will cut away to the decision visual. This allows for the decision to be displayed as quickly as possible.

The VAR call for Phil's goal was a total disgrace yesterday. How can the VAR identify when an arse cheek is offside. Literally millimetres. Bearing in mind the shutter speed of the cameras they are using is probably not adequate and I don't think there is a sensor in the ball to identify when it first was passed to Phil. This VAR call along with many offsides is highly subjective and open to manipulation and bias. Its been a pretty shameful performance from PMGOL this season. They've allowed scrum and rucks to emerge into the game which has ruined the product this year. Howard Webb should go as a minimum.

But surely if they were going to try and hide the fact it’s supposedly corrupt, they’d have given that goal so we can’t all call it out? There was nothing at stake, afterall.

If we have semi automated VAR why were Villa's 2nd and Foden's reviewed to such an extent (apart from to manufacture the outcome they wanted)? I can understand a human having to be involved where there is a crowded penalty area, but why with these?
