The Squad planning thread

Doesn’t make sense in any capacity. We want to rebuild and we’re bringing back players that haven’t delivered in three years? May as well bring back Akanji.
Yeah I think your right tbh, but just trying to think about why they would do it. Put off signing a winger for a year is basically it.

It is wrong to say Pep could not get the best out of Grealish, Pep chose to give Grealish`s position to Gundogan, understandable but when he went , he chose to give it to Kovacic, Grealish is not a winger, stop pulling down this fabulous player whose only fault is there were better players at City.
You’re on the take. He wasn’t good enough when he played 10 no matter how rarely he played there. He couldn’t grasp the concept of space and movement, Juventus away last season when we lost 2-0, Gvardiol had to actively point to him which spaces to run into. I remember that game specifically because he was so uninvolved and ineffective.
He and Cherki have similar attributes btw. Both don’t have a large burst of acceleration & nor are they the fastest yet Cherki manages to make it work at RW despite being younger because he understands space better.

Not this shit again. Grealish played lw for Villa, England, city and Everton. He is and always will be a winger

Correct! Just in his Villa main days he was allowed to drift around, do what he wanted etc whereas Pep is all about stay where you are told? We also play against low block all the time which Villa didnt either.

So Pep has gone, Haaland, Rodri, and Donna will probably follow him out next year, which gives the opportunity to grow or cry. so lets look at it long term, squad building the basics, in terms of value to the club first and in some cases price.
Club trained Trafford, plays in a position rules say you need 3, value £150 million, O Reilly, Foden, Alleyne, and Lewis, you need 4 so 1 will be taking up a foreign spot, why is Alleyne ahead, because he plays in a position that both O Reilly and Ait Nouri will be after more minutes and Gvadiol is just coming back from injury, plus he is better in that position than Lewis is in any position.
Association trained, Bettinelli, it is madness not to have one in the 3rd spot that you have to name, Anderson a big buy Semenyo, Branthwite a big buy that may get offset by Grealish, Guehi again a player that takes up a Foreign spot, which he is capable of at the moment, but Branthwaite is better than Guehi at everything.
That leaves the youth, preseason will show us who can make the step up, which is where our youth were robbed last season, but 1 we should buy is Dadason, when Shearer was getting bogged down Blackburn went out and bought Sutton, Sutton was never as good, but he allowed Shearer to play, Haaland is getting bogged down, and Dadason is cheap he does not take up a squad place.
Which leaves who is our Foreign signing? what if it is a swap deal Rodri plus cash for Valverde, now that would change our way of looking at our squad.

How does Guehi take up a foreign spot?

How doe Guehi take up a foreign spot and Branthwaite wouldn't? Plus no he isn't better at everything.Oh and Haaland probably won't be following him anywhere.
So which one is bigger, faster, has better first ball control reads the game quicker and can use both feet, the proof of the pudding is Everton improve when Branthwaite plays and have done so for 3 years, Guehi does have strengths the best being he can play left or right equally well. as for Haaland there will be players at City that came for Pep, he is one, but he is also one that has won everything and will be looking at winning everything in a different league as others have done, what do you think the low buyout clause is for.

once you go past 4 Club trained and 4 Association trained, every player is in the 17 foreign spots as it is a 25 man squad, you can adjust the system as we did with Zinchenko
Currently we have these club trained and association trained on the books for next season.

nico
phil
james
rico

guehi
Ake
Semenyo
Grealish
Betinelli
Phillips

Am I missing anyone?

Haalands going nowhere.

Two wingers? What about them
both these wingers were at the club when you claimed Cherki had similar qualities, Grealish is not a winger, he is a left sided midfielder, his qualities are being able to hold the ball under pressure and draw a foul. The rags will tell you that Grealish is a flop and it is embarrassing listening to City fans accepting that crap. I am not a Grealish fan boy i just do not agree with slagging off a player to keep rags happy, and no i do not want him back, he has had his time it did not work out

Why do people keep mentioning Barcola? I haven't seen any links to him anywhere but several times I've seen him mentioned. Does he want out of PSG? Wouldn't he be very expensive? Why would PSG let him go?

Assumption that should they win the CL he might fancy a new challenge. Not as highly rated as Doue etc in that team and PSG would probably sell him to fund other signings.
