Right back options

If we’re basically swapping Savinho for Porro, then it really doesn’t impact what can be spent on the midfield. I reckon we could stretch to another midfielder, but you might find that Rodri, Kovacic, Anderson, Gonzalez, Reijnders, and Nunes/O’Reilly suffices. Perhaps wait another season and add more, Wharton(?), once the highlighted leave.
That a fair point about Porro/ Savinho.

Rodri recovering his match fitness & not becoming another Kompany is key but he's not really a ball winner & more of a metronome conductor when we have the ball. Gonzalez, Reijnders & Kovacic are good ball players but non of them can dictate the game by putting in tackles & winning the ball consistantly when we are out of possession

When everyone is pressing and scrapping to regain possession, the need for a designated ball-winning midfielder is less important, but I understand your frustration. Rather than just buy someone, though, I'd be happier to get Anderson and then view how the season unfolds. Of course, if someone unexpectedly leaves this summer, I'd rethink that situation.

I think Maresca will continue to invert the LB and keep the RB back, especially when our LB options are so attacking.

And if Reis is brought back there is a theoretical world we dont need another RB with Guehi deputizing there.

O Reilly/Ait Nouri
Gvardiol/Reis
Dias/Khus
Nunes/Guehi

With the bottom 6 options making the back 3.

That isn't even considering the possibility that Ake may stay.

We probably still should buy a RB, but if they are just gonna play RCB, Guehi is more than good enough to backup Nunes while getting Reis minutes.

Nunes, Khusanov, there done, take a good look at this season every bit of praise for Khusanov is the same praise that Walker got, City have Guehi and Dias who are right footed so game time at RCB is going to be limited, but still available, Riess another right footed player may come back as well, so the RB backup already has multiple challengers.

Khusanov isn’t a right back. Just because he’s quick doesn’t mean that’s his game. He’ll be an incredible CB if we keep playing him there.

Where's the Guehi right back idea come from? He's a left sided cb, not a right back. He'll probably do a job there in a injury crisis but we aren't entering the season with Guehi one of 2 right back options.

We need to stop this, Pep might play a player at Right back who’s a centreback by trade. But this is Maresca , at Leicester and Chelsea he wanted players that are actual full backs. Because that position is so important in his teams and system.
Its why right now we are linked to multiple full backs

But Maresca isn’t Pep? Maybe he just wants a proper RB and not someone who can fill in there? I’m not even sure Nunes starts at RB anymore under Maresca if he gets a proper one brought in .

Guehi is right footed, so he is actually more natural as an RCB than an LCB.

He can pass with his left foot, but you can see it in game how much less comfortable he looks on it, he often has to just hoof it.

Its about the in possession shape, the back 3, we technically have 6 options with Reis back to replace Ake, it is enough depth.

I posted in another thread of systems, but if we go with wide fullbacks at all, which i like in the 4321, then 100% get a RB like Read.

But if its just going to be Marescas usual 3241 with LB inverting, that style of RB is not necessary.

on the one hand I tempted to ask could Nunes play in Midfield seeing as we are linked with multiple RB and probably short on midfielders with Bernardo, going and possibly doubts over Kovacic, Gonzales, reijnders even Rodri.

However I don’t see why people think Maresca willy want a RB who is a RB he likes fullbacks who invert same as Pep same as Nunes

I know he is right footed but he isn't playing LCB against his will. He was palace's best defender, their captain. If he wanted to play RCB or felt he was better there he would have played there.

It isn't just what is your strongest foot, it's the angles both in and out of possession, for whatever reason LCB is his position. No doubt he can play RCB but right back will be extremely alien to him. It would not surprise me at all if he was a better left back than right back but I doubt we will see him in either position unless it's an emergency.

Depends what you mean by a proper one, I’d think Nunes is pretty close to what Maresca wants from his full back, not a fill in.Assuming the left back O’Reilly is his inverted full back then Nunes being part of a back 3 is what he done often under Pep.We need back up for him but would think profile wise Nunes is ideal, as is O’Reilly on the other side.

Im only saying RB if it turns into RCB on the ball.

If not, then yeah I prefer a more attacking option.

He plays mostly LCB but his right foot is still his preferred.
