The Squad planning thread

I'm not sure if this has been discussed but the amount of money potentially we're gonna save with wages could be massive

Stones- 250,000
Silva - 300,000
Grealish - 200,000
Phillips - 150,000
Pep - 385,000 apparently

Whoever we bring in is unlikely to be on wages more than 200,000 a week.
Philips contracted until 2028, I would rule out anyone paying his full wages of 150,000.

Grealish contracted until 2027 so not much chance of getting all that back either.

If we assume, for fun, a massive clear out of potentially under utilized players, and add some signings, here is what I've come up with.

For both formations I brought back Ryan McAidoo and Divine Mukasa for depth in attacking areas because im assuming we sell alot of players and focus on higher quality replacements.

I think the 4321 from last season with fullbacks wide and rotating with wingers could be used under Maresca.

It probably means we have too many CBs, but Wharton is probably not needed tbh as Reis or Anderson could fill as a Rodri backup. Read is a good shout for attacking fullbacks rotation for Nunes.

Then the more likely 4231 into a 3241 with inverted LB is the more likely Maresca formation (but he could rotate systems). This setup actually needs less signings and doesn't require Read as now Reis goes to CB with Guehi as the RB rotation in a back 3. And now Wharton definitely isnt needed (all assuming Rodri stays), meaning this system is likely cheaper.

I think these setups with these players has higher quality but enough depth, and a chance for younger players (McAidoo, Mukasa, Reis) to get some minutes.

Just seen an XI described as the best City team under Guardiola.

Ederson
Walker Kompany Stones Cancelo
KdB. Rodri. Silva
Bernardo Haaland Sterling

Can't really argue with that. And bar Erling and Rodri they may all have played together.

That's the sort of quality we had. I was surprised at Raheem's inclusion but his output was extraordinary.

Do any of our current squad possess the ability to if not replace these guys at least be somewhere in the vicinity?

O'Reilly at LB, definitely yes. Khusanov possibly. After that it gets tricky.

Reijnders, Nico G, Savinho, Ake, Akanji, Grealish, Marmoush, Kova, Traff and Lewis must be 340k in sales there before academy sales

Plus talk of others not being happy and want a move(Rodri Dias Josko)

Stones Bernie off the books Philips being paid off

We need Anderson CM, another RB, Winger top quality, another Keeper, Reis coming back adds replacement for Ake also replacements for any of the rumored discontented players

Another CM if Nico G goes and an AM if Reijnders and Marmoush go

Can we try for Neves?
Not a chance anymore. 2 years ago I was advertising for Neves here, comparing him to Haaland and Gvardiol signings, saying this is how we beat the likes of RM. This year we were eliminated by RM, missing someone like Neves. People were saying it's a ridiculous price tag etc. Turns out it wasn't so crazy after all. Paying up for the right player is an investment, and worth it.
