Then it works for you, kudos. :)Funnily enough, we do live in a suburban part of Cheshire, and do make multiple long journeys a year. It works for us. Got to be honest if someone drives like a prick then they’ll kill somebody whether they’re in an SUV or a tiny hatchback, makes no difference. It’s the driver that’s the important factor; their attitude and skill, or usually lack of it.
But they are completely unnecessary for the majority of people driving them, who lack the skill to control such a large, heavy vehicle. Personally, if I wanted a vehicle of that calibre, i'd buy a 4x4; Dacia Duster, Defender, Land Cruiser, etc. They do everything a SUV does, but better.
