16 | Rodri 2025/26

The club have never been arsed about wringing fees for players when they still have value to us so not sure why we change now.

All of our legends have left for nothing when we could have got some sort of a fee.

Agreed. Even for 12 months he’s worth more to us than whatever paltry fee Madrid would be willing to cough up. There’s zero chance they’d give us 100m, or anything north of 50m even.

What would we do with that cash? Anderson will cost us double & the market is dire trying to find one midfielder never mind two. With Bernardo gone it’s too much change to bear in one summer.

Pep always kept saying that we will see old Rodri next season.

So Pep's word is the truth, something we should obviously believe

And old Rodri is the best player in the world, even considering today's best players..

Therefore having that kind of player for 1 additional season is better, than getting 70-80 euros from Madrid bustards..

And in future who knows, I am expecting circus and shitload from Jose and maybe Rodri decides that Madrid isn't the best place for his remaining couple years and it's better to stay in the club, where he became what he became.

Style is also important.
Player who got used to Pep's brilliance, will never adapt to Jose's "park the bus" tactics and counter-attacking football.

Rodri, who's captain of their national team, wouldn't say in Spain he wouldn't play in Spain. Common sense.

Plus, he's currently negotiating with City. I wouldn't be too surprised if he wanted to go back to La Liga but I don't think he is opposed to staying. It depends on whether we can make an offer he can't refuse. Maybe our club bosses are reluctant to go too high due to his injuries and age. Normal things. I doubt anything interesting is going to happen in that regard before or during the WC.

Club knew about KDB's injuries and he was same age Rodri is now, but they gave him big contract anyway and even though KDB continued being injured a lot, we still benefited from his contribution.

Therefore, keeping Rodri as a "luxury player" at least, I think will benefit us like it did in case of KDB

They kept Fernandinho around to teach Rodri the dark arts and I’m certain he will here to impart his wisdom to the next generation of champions. Reis is his doppelgänger.

Reports that Madrid are after Rice now seem hard to believe but you never know. Barcelona signed Gordon!
I think Rice suits Jose's philosophy more than Rodri

I watched Arsenal game against PSG and they parked the bus for 90 minutes and Rice was heart of their defence.

I don't think Rodri suits that kind of football as he is used to having an initiative, keeping the ball and attacking.
He was never that kind of DM and probably that's why Simeone sold him that easily to us.

Therefore, if there is one positive, that's Jose's return in Madrid.

I agree, but our club bosses have their reasons. We don't know the actual offer and what Rodri wants.

Ignore all offers and let him go to madrid in 2027 if he refuses to renew. he'll be 31 then and I've no doubt we would have had his best years, if he wants to leave fair play. But no point selling him in such a precarious year.

Atletico didn't want to sell Rodri. He had a release clause and we paid it.

In one breath I can understand his side of it - best player in the world and not had a new deal since before that award, a captain in the side and a key player to the whole team.

However, long term injury and no doubt he’ll be wanting a long contract length in addition to massive wages too. Plus the fact it’ll take him into early-mid 30s on big money.

Personally I’d give him what he wants. Quality, experience and a leader in the dressing room who elevates the rest of his teammates.

I’d give him 400k PWK on a three year deal with an option to extend. Can’t blame him for wanting a larger piece of the pie after watching Marmoush and Guehi come in on 300k PWk. At least Guehi was coming in on that money because he was missing out on a signing on bonus. No excuse for Marmoush

Marmoush was a panic buy which is unusual for Txiki.

Fortunately he boosted us into the CL but still massive wages.
