He'll know that if we bring in Anderson and have Gonzalez, too, we will have put strength and running power in beside him. They're not good enough yet to replace him, but they can be of benefit to him. He'll no longer be expected to play every minute of every game to carry the team, so instead he can use the season ahead to rebuild his long-term fitness before leaving on a high next summer.Rodri at 75% is still the best midfielder in the Premier league.
It's no coincidence that our results suffer when he's not in the team. You don't get rid of those players if they are happy to stay and we should be doing whatever we can to get another season out of him.
Too many accountants on here more concerned about a potential fee we receive rather than focusing on what he brings to the table when he's playing.
If he actively wants out then that's different but I'm not sure that's the case right now.
Played 1400 mins btw less than Ait Nouri. I know our wage bill this season was bonkersI'm still reeling at the news on here that Marmoush is on 300 a week, gobsmacked.
But we would be worse off without him ? VVD did his ACL was terrible the season after and then won the league again. I know players are different but it’s not like the psg midfielders are available. We’re never gonna see his prime again but he doesn’t have to be flawless to be the best in the league. That cup game against Arsenal where he rice levels told me all I needed to know. There’s no Pep anymore to improve players drastically so i’d keep those he coached well for as long as possible. Keep that DNA, that winning mentality etc. who cares what the wage bill is if we’re winning trophies every season.I'm of the opinion that we also need to know when the right time to let a player leave is. Being honest, he is not 25 years old and in his prime years, he is going to be 30 at the end of this month. Whilst he is still unbelievable when fit, he is not the player of the Balon D'or year and I don't think we should be held over a barrel.
Will he remain fit? Giving a bumper new contract to a player who suddenly has a lot of question marks just doesn't seem like good business or make much footballing sense when you take the emotion out of it.
I want him to stay, but if we remain a world apart in terms of an offer, then let him go for free and thank you for everything.

We kept Walker too long, Fernandinho was needed until his legs left, I don’t think it’s the worse thing in the world to let players leave when they’re bad but I know what you mean. Didn't Alvarez want to move on, to get more game time? When a player expresses a wish to leave, the club generally will let him go, subject to an acceptable offer coming in. And I don't recall too many saying we sold him on the cheap (£64m, rising to potentially £81m with addons). As for Palmer; he had one outstanding season for Chelsea (albeit stat padded with penalties). The last two seasons, he's been pretty meh.Apart from Alvarez and Palmer to some extent the club have always made the right decision when any of our big names have moved on.
Perhaps his agent offered him to Madrid on the qt trying to get himself a huge payday? In other words, Rodders rejected the Madrid twats ? hopefully.
Presumably, the Konate that's at the dips. Can't understand how anyone would want to buy him. Anytime I see him, there's a mistake in him. And the fact that he's in France's World Cup squad is baffling to me. Are they short of decent alternatives?Madrid have brought in / bringing in Dumfries and Konate. Might slow down the need for Rodri

Surprised they got that much for him!Konate left last week on a free

Two poor signings for madridMadrid have brought in / bringing in Dumfries and Konate. Might slow down the need for Rodri
I think Mourinho is going for the tougher lads at the expense of skilful onesTwo poor signings for madrid
Konate has been horrendous this season and Dumfries is way below the level they need
Bargains maybe, but don’t improve them at all
