Enzo Maresca

The relevant PL Rule: J.3 (25-26).

Save as otherwise permitted by these Rules, no Club shall directly or indirectly induce or attempt to induce any Player, Manager, assistant manager, head coach or other senior first team football coach of another Club (or EFL club) to terminate a contract of employment with that other Club (or EFL club) (whether or not by breach of that contract) or directly or indirectly approach any such employee with a view to offering employment without the consent of that other Club (or EFL club).

When shall we report Arsenal for Arteta then?

Fair enough mate.

My point was there’s no rush to appoint him - even if it takes another couple of weeks - as it doesn’t materially change how we (or he) would be operating during that timescale anyway.

Viana will be working on any new signings, with input from Maresca I’m sure.

The players are all away at the moment, so any prep Maresca would be doing at this point isn’t the kind of visible work that would land him in trouble before a formal announcement - so he’ll be working pretty much as he would if he’d been announced already.

Everyone knows who our Manager is going to be next season, so whether we announce him now or in a couple of weeks makes no difference.

Correct it could be another month and it won’t make much difference

Generally agree mate, though the only difference I could see it making is in announcing any transfer deals maybe? I know it’s not the manager who is most directly involved on that, but I still can’t foresee a situation where the club announce a transfer when we don’t have a manager. Have any other club ever done that?
Of course I suppose we can say that an official announcement of any transfers can wait though …

I just love this quote from him. I've been reading more into old school Italian football. Sacchi was an amazing manager I'd put him up their with best after reading more about his ideas of how football should be played and it seems to me that Maresca is the evolution of old school Italian ideas with a Cruyff/Pep influence. He agrees that the system is important but also that individuals can decide games.

Enzo Maresca asked if he agreed with Sacchi's belief that a football team is an orchestra with no place for soloists: "Yes, he is right, you need your team to be an orchestra, but inside that orchestra you need a couple of artists that make music better with their little details."
Isn't that just a twist on the "you need two pianists and eight piano shifters" philosophy?

Pep has been the greatest manager City have had. A part of me will be glad to see no crazy changes of team sheets on important games, seeing players played in their natural position i.e. Phil as a 10 drifting in from RM, prob too late for Savio as an out and out LW, not waiting until the 80th min for glaring changes that could be seen in the 1st half.
Yes I remember thinking at every trophy lift, how much better it could have been if Pep hadn't tinkered with the team so much and used his subs earlier.

I'd be confident that the club did not approach him with the view of offering employment without the consent of the other club. Nor attempt to induce him.to terminate his contract.
Meresca it seems had a clause in his contract that if he or his representatives had meetings with another club took place he was duty bound to report it back to Chelsea.
There were it seems two un sanctioned meetings that he did indeed report .
I very much doubt those meetings were about hair products

Read the regulation, read what I said. Understand commas (or their lack of as well).

I have no doubt if City did indeed come calling he would want to take the opportunity.

But one thing fascinates me is where will his line of responsibility start and end at City.

Pep clearly had significant input into most matters but Meresca had major issues it seems when he for instance was overruled by the medical team when it came to players fitness and in particular how many minutes a returning player should be given or when he as HC was told a player suffering a long term injury wouldn’t lead to another signing.

Will Meresca be a HC or want to have the sort of input we , Chelsea, now seem to granted Alonso?
