Robot hoover: yes or no?

They’re good, but not great. Given that you need to clean them out frequently, pick them up when they run out of power/ chew on a rug etc and you still need to do a ‘proper’ vacuum anyway, they're no less overall effort than just running the Hoover over everything once a week.

The only exception is if you live in a hard-floored, sparsely-furnished house that looks like a museum, or art gallery.

I love mine, has about an hour runtime and good suction. It will do front and back rooms, hallway, kitchen and kitchen extension in about 30 mins. combination of carpets. wood floor and marble. I can work upstairs and let it do it's thing. Empty the dust compartment once ever 3 runs taking seconds to do.

Little and often is the key. Picks up all the fluff and bits that fall onto floors. Obviously can't deal with deep down dirt, but in the year since I bought it, I've never regretted doing so.

What model is it?

Wood flooring throughout a sparsely furnished house that looks like an art gallery here, downstairs here with a few rugs.
Our Shark model is brilliant.
Only faff is lifting the dining chairs and occasional tables out of the way before setting it off.
Does the whole four rooms downstairs on one charge.

Lazy ****?

Thought about getting one of these, but I think I'll just continue to save up until I have enough money to pay Phillipa Forrester to pop round and hoover while I kick fuck out of Jonathan Pearce if he pipes up with any commentary.

Same here, we normally set it going when we go to the supermarket.

We're constantly amazed how much it sucks up once a week, as there are only 2 of us in a 2 bedroomed, 2 bathroomed flat (no pets), various surfaces.

Are we talking about the sort of thing Jesse from Breaking Bad had here? That's the only place I've ever seen one.

They look pretty cool but surely they cant get into corners or right up against walls can they?

I love mine too - it's a Eufy Robovac X8. It's been a game changer especially as we have dogs so it does a great job picking up the dust and hair from them every day - the amount of crap it picks up makes me wish I'd got one sooner and it's ability to operate under our sofas and under the dining table means it covers a lot more surface area as we would not ordinarily be able to easily reach these previously with our normal cleaner.

It's on a daily cleaning schedule and starts every morning at 7:00am and does most of the downstairs. This is mainly hardflooring but includes a couple off rugs. I periodically let it in the lounge but this requires me to move some items from the floor (and put them back again later!) to clean the carpet in that room. I also set it off upstairs once a week to do its thing cleaning the carpets and bathrooms but that is more time consuming and involves moving more furniture out of the way before and after cleaning (and hence why it's only done once a week). It is very useful in that it can operate right under the beds and the amount of dust it pulls out is phenomenal.

It's nice to come down to a freshly vacuumed area every morning. I empty the dust collector every day (some models have their own dust bin where they deposit the dirt but I think it is easier just to empty it daily). I clean and change the filter after it has vacuumed the upstairs. You also have to change the sweeping brush a couple of times a year. I recently had to replace the battery after owning it for three years - I bought a larger capacity one for £30 so it now has a much longer run time before needing to be recharged.

The negatives are that it occasionally gets stuck or goes offline and it is not really designed for very thick rugs/shag pile.

Overall, I would highly recommend one provided you don't have to move a lots of furniture beforehand.
