Enzo Maresca

should we not have foreseen a possible legal issue with his appointment and dealt with it sooner?
Knowing City, they did and they're dealing with it. No-one does succession planning/any planning as well as City; we are the best and absolutely unique thanks to the incredible backers we're so fortunate to have behind the scenes.

Maresca will give continuity of style. If that's not the style for you then you have to vote with your feet.
We have spent years developing a playing style that is synched from 'Junior' blues to the first XI.
I imagine that we have chosen Maresca for exactly that reason.
The interesting part, for me, is if Maresca can have the ingenuity of Pep to keep developing this style to cope with fresh challenges that arrive.

I’m sorry I don’t really understand your point. Where have I ever suggested the style of play is not for me? And why do you think the entertainment level, based on this style, is rigid. It’s not, that has been played out in front of our eyes for the past 10 years.

I don’t disagree we have an overall ‘style’ of playing which runs through the club, We can argue, it’s positional, possession based or any other description currently in vogue but it’s a style set by Txixi etc, learnt at Barcelona based on the teachings of Johann Cruyff and continued by his number one pupil Pep Guardia and has produced some of the most thrilling football of all time.

We have seen examples of this with the great Cruyff, Pep sides at Barca and throughout Pep’s reign, with particular reference to the 2017/18, 2018/29, 2022/23 where our style allowed us to play arguably the best football in Europe. There is little comparison in ‘continuity of style’, from an entertainment perspective. with Maresca’s Leicester or Chelsea side because even though it might follow the overriding philosophy his style of football and management is to adopt a cautious, negative adaption of this philosophy.

Additionally we have seen, based on City’s principle of football, overlapping fullbacks (Mendy and Walker), inverted full backs (Delph, Zinchenko, Cancelo), four central defenders (2022/23), two number 8s (Silva and De Bruyne), a number 10 behind the striker (Foden 2023/24) a false 9 (Gundogan 2020/21), an out and out striker (Haaland 2023-), out and out wingers (same and sterling) inverted wide players (Grealish and Foden/Bernardo/Savinho), highlighting the amount of variation based upon the overriding philosophy. Additionally, even a club like Barca, much more steeped in a style of play within the club structure, have brought in a manager like Hansi Flick which has evolved the style of play within the parameters of the overall philosophy. It’s not a rigid structure, or has to be, that your suggesting.

As I wrote above I hope he has evolved or the football could be a proper bore fest.

Not quite sure what everyone is so hot and bothered about with Maresca, his Chelsea hangover and style of play?!

The club will deal with any Chelsea hangover.
His style of play is Pep + more aggressive pressing and attacking.

EM appears to favor a 2-3-5/2-2-6 going forward to completely overload the defence. The only serious question is whether he has a Plan B for all the low block clubs?

In the back, he favors young and athletic, so Khusa is a Godsend to him on our right side, and that doesn’t bode well for Dias. I’d imagine Gvardiol and Guehi are going to scrap over the left side of defence. It remains to be seen how he deploys his FBs. Nunes and O’Reilly might be perfect wing backs for his set up.

I can only speak for myself, but I don’t think there will be nearly the outgoings this season as some suggest, as he needs the bulk of the squad to maintain continuity, while adding what the squad has been missing and is losing in Stones & Bernardo.

I’m excited to see what he cobbles together from the post-WC players, given the imperative for many of them to get some R&R.

I foresee Cherki & Rodri not starting the season, due to going deep in the WC, but apart from that…???

Exciting times ahead…one way or the other…but theeeeseee eeeeeeez futbol!

Also can he get the current crop of misfits/underperformers to pull their fingers out
  • Rodri (since his injury)
  • Foden (since being footballer of the year)
  • Dias (since shacking up with MJ)
  • Nico Gonzalez
  • Ait-Nouri
  • Marmoush
  • Reijnders
  • Savinho
Will be interesting to see if he even gets a chance to work with them. Feel they will all be gone by the time pre-season kicks in
All ?

We can't be losing ALL of that list, it would be utter suicide, especially with a new coach. Might as well turn the lights off and lock the doors.

I just responded to this:

I don’t want to be undertaking a 10 hour round trip, missing out on time with friends/family, spending 90 quid on petrol to watch Maresca bore me to tears for 90 minutes with sidewards, backwards football.

And, ultimately, you have the ability to vote with your feet.

I still dont understand why its reported that City are talking to Chelsea to sign him as manager.
He quit Chelsea months ago isn't employed by them. I dont get what Chelsea have to do with this
Because he resigned, Chelsea allowed him to step down, but they did not terminate his contract. He is no longer the head coach, but technically he is still an employee of Chelsea, just without a specific role or position.

Unless you have the legal documents that lay out his separation agreement, I’d politely suggest that “fact” is conjecture, at best.

Nobody knows what the situation is between chelsea, him and/or City, other than chelsea, him and City. Certainly no journalists will be in on it, they're just speculating.

We all wait, and since nothing is going on football wise at City currently, it really doesn't matter at the moment.

So Chelsea are still paying him a wage as he is still a Chelsea employee. That seems bonkers lol. I guess Chelsea didnt except his resignation.

It's neither a "fact" nor a "conjecture." I'm simply referring to Chelsea's claim. They may well be wrong, which is why City are taking legal steps to challenge it!

It would have been nice to announce him a bit sooner mate? No biggy at all in fairness, just as one era ends, the new one was announced and done.
Is there anything preventing us from announcing him?

From a pure mechanical standpoint, I can't see what it would be. He's not under contract anywhere, so we don't necessarily have to wait for anyone. It must be that City are worried that Chelsea would sue or file something with the FA against them, and it just becomes another battle, and working out a deal with Chelsea is easier than the alternative, dealing with more courts and lawyers for years on end.

Kinda ironic though right ?

Many (most? All?) people weren't convinced by VK at Burnley and the whole football world was in shock he was picked for a team like Bayern
VK at Burnley was strange. He seemed determined to play an open attacking game but did not have the players for it; yet he never altered his tactics and went down as a result.
