England v New Zealand - Sat 6th June, 21:00 | Friendly

I know people are skeptical of anything modern but they learned that more time was lost to players slowing down, more stoppages and onboarding water incidentally than would be lost by just having the drinks break. That was part of the reason they did it. Plus we didn’t have any of the knowledge of hyponatremia in the 90s that we do now.

Literally dozens of kids died in the US playing their summer egg-type football before they realised how big a problem it was and tightened up the regulations around hydration.

I get that people have nostalgia but I think sometimes they romanticise the wrong things. I have no problem with prioritising the health of players.

I have no problem with drinks break at all

I have a big problem with American commentator/reporters referring to the game in “quarters” like I have seen this evening

“USMNT 1 GER 2 in the 3rd quarter”

Absolutely fucking no to that NO

Yes bin that off. Also half-time shows.

Also they should ban advertising during drinks breaks if they want to dispel the idea it is just done for commercial interests and not player safety.
