Fuck me some old fucking codgers on this thread. Suprised none of you have mentioned the Peterloo riots

And no mention of the Hac

The fucking hanging bogs in piccadilly gardens and all the tramps leathered on the lawns

And about 30 phone boxes around each corner of the gardens.
one of our lot went to Aussie and reversed the charges to one of them boxes before the gpo sussed the scam out.

No internet no mobiles

No nuffin.

Drove past placemate 7 last night! It's a building site!

all the pubs that had an "outdoor", a name that we ended up giving to all off licences.
We had an 'outdoor' at our pub on Regent Rd, all the old dears off Regent Rd flats would bring big old beer bottles, jugs and even flower varses in to be filled up with beer, i loved the early 70s

Hulme just before the demolition.

Thanks for putting this on. My old mate Colin is in it, he's the guy with the London accent in the block of flats, Fulton Court I think, in Hulme.

I was a kid in the 1980's. We used to call the Victoria Wine the outdoor. And before we moved, the ten o clock shop near Maine Road.

My Mum and Dad had an off-licence on West Park Street (off Trafford Road). They used to sell Greenhall's on draft to people who came in with jugs etc.

And they sold home made Vimto ice lollies too

My Aunty had an off door on Eccles New Rd.,that sold bitter from hand pumps for people who brought in jugs. When it was demolished we had the bar and hand pumps in our house and my uncle has it in his garage, waiting for me to stump up the money to ship it to Aus.;probably never happen:(.

My Mam and Step Dad ran a pub on Robert Hall St also off Trafford Road, after that it was one on Regent Rd, not daft my parents it was a big drinking area due to the proximity of the docks, they were offered one on Irlam 'o' the heights but turned it down, the Salford women liked their 'mild' in them days

Fucking hell, ended up here on christmas eve just gone, no idea how this place is still open with the trouble they've had there over the years. A right dump but one of the best nights I've had.

Too young to contribute much to this but I'm surprised not to see more mention of the Hacienda and the Thunderdome.

It was the Peterloo massacre as for the Hac it was over rated full of tourists like the swamp.

That old building standing out on its own and patch of wasteland at Hanging Ditch. Had a Hertz rent a car place on it too. Looked bloody awful and a real eyesore, but when I was a kid getting the bus into town, it meant you'd arrived!

I never knew about the subway near Kendals. Where exactly was it and what is there now?

kendals were on either side of the street so had a subway you could use rather than risk crossing deansgate.
it will still be there but I'm sure its block off once across the road. waterstones are on one side house of fraser the other.

Just talking to people at work about it, they both remember it but I've never seen it.

Good stuff.
