Some people claim that UKIP is racist because it wants to stop immigration from EU countries.

But in 2004 when the UK allowed people from the newer EU countries in to work nearly all the other older EU countries didn't.

France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Holland etc etc said no to an influx of workers from Poland and other new EU countries, and imposed a ban which only ended years later.

So if UKIP is racist in this respect then surely so were the governments and people of all those older EU countries.

Funny how we never heard cries about this at the time fro those people who are so expert at detecting racism in other people.

And funny how pro-EU types in the UK never mention it either.

The very best UKIP can hope for is being able to split the votes of the 3 major parties. They have made great strides but so did BNP a few years ago in Burnley.

Kelso is a lovely little racecourse and a cracking town - if you want a decent meal, The Cobbles off the main town square is fucking brilliant for steaks and seafood, and is a free house with loads of decent real ales on too.

I'll just take one example of one of your replies to that post.

That reply was a little disingenuous in as much that every minority in this country are not British in any way.

They could be any nationality and could only be here for a short time, which makes them (Wait for it) FOREIGNERS.

Personally I don't give a toss who becomes British as long as they buy into it and don't have a second or 3rd passport hiding in a drawer somewhere where they can just pull out and leave if it isn't working out for them.

Black/Pink/Brown/Jew/Muslim/Trappist I don't care.....as long as you define yourself as British then everyone who's British should have a right to stay and have a say in everything involving this country.

How are people classed as minorities not British in any way? My mother was born in India. She has a duel passport and has lived here for over 50 years. She is classed as a minority because of her skin colour. She isn't British because of that?

Some people claim that UKIP is racist because it wants to stop immigration from EU countries.

But in 2004 when the UK allowed people from the newer EU countries in to work nearly all the other older EU countries didn't.

France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Holland etc etc said no to an influx of workers from Poland and other new EU countries, and imposed a ban which only ended years later.

So if UKIP is racist in this respect then surely so were the governments and people of all those older EU countries.

Funny how we never heard cries about this at the time fro those people who are so expert at detecting racism in other people.

And funny how pro-EU types in the UK never mention it either.

And so another UKIP thread heads the same way as the many others and turns into a RW vs LW loons slanging match. There are people intelligent enough to engage with UKIP and pull apart there policies for all to see, but instead mainstream politicians and the media have conducted what is pretty much a smear campaign against UKIP which is backfiring as the electorate feel dictated to.

This is actually a pretty interesting point. I do think that the 3 main parties could do a damn site better at 1) marketing themselves and 2) passing out information in a digestable way.

Would people want to hear that, though? People are pretrty entrenched in their own views, once views become embedded, they are pretty hard to shift

Farage is a horrible little bloke, but nowhere near as shitty as all the hand-wringing 'liberals' in the media and parliament who are only just about managing not too say 'look what those horrid,stupid, common people in S Yorks and Essex have done.'
I'm honestly starting to find UKIP less sinister than the agenda in the mainstream of politics and the media to tell us what to think and vote for. Anyone with half a brain can see the Tory offer of a referendum on Europe will be like their shit-house one on electoral reform. Hopefully UKIP will give the current 3 party center right cartel the kick up the arse it deserves.
