Just finished watching The Shield again.

So underrated!

I've seen a few people on here mention that The Wire is similar so I'm going to give it another go.

Feeling the same way about that Shield show think it might be up there as one of the best shows I have seen, that Homocide life on the streets has a lot of good reviews does anybody know anything?

4th episode of 1864 now and really enjoying it. Beautifully done.

It's definitely the most interesting thing I've seen recently. It's not just another period drama, that's for sure. I've only seen episode 1 & 2 but will sit down to the lot later on.

Don't mind me, I'm just going to go off on one here for a bit...

I heard someone describe it as 'dream-like', and I thought that summed it up well. It's obviously 'too' beautiful. It's deliberately a lie, a real story told by someone there, mixed up with stuff they had to imagine, or flesh out, and filtered through someone else's idealised past. It's one of those where you think you know where a scene is going, and start anticipating how it will make you feel, but then quite subtly it ends up going in a different direction, often quite an ambiguous one. The overpowering beauty, and these shifts in behaviour and tone make it quietly very surreal. The characters inhabit different worlds, and are quite playful and headstrong. Sometimes they themselves lie for no apparent reason apart from to make the story they are telling beautiful and dramatic. When they overlap, different worlds collide, it's kind of bewlidering. And then it will suddenly seem very straightforward, real and heartfelt. I'm still trying to figure out what I felt during the scene with the three of them in the water. Having said that, some of it misses the mark by quite a long way, like the fat boy aping Hitler's mannerisms, although I guess you could say that's how the girl reading the diary would imagine him (or maybe I'm just reading too much into it all again).

It's kind of like a much more intricate and weighty version of Atonement's depiction of memory and the process of reimagining the past.

(If you read this far, please don't hold it against me)
Summed up perfectly! ;-)
It's multi layered I think, and sometimes almost uncomfortable to watch despite how stunning some of the scenes look. And having watched part 4 last night I think your comparison with Atonement is a good one. In fact there is a scene in part 4 that confirms that idea of truth being distorted or deliberately misunderstood.
I also think the scenes in the present are becoming as interesting as the main ones from the past, which is unusual for me when reading something structured like this. Anyway, won't say anymore and hope you continue to enjoy it ;-)

Do so. Shield and Wire are my top two.

I think the Shield did very very well to do 7 seasons with a major plot line running all the way through and the quality never really dropped.

Lost and Prison Break disagree ;)

Haha.....you're bang on with Sam. He's from the 'heavy breathing' school of acting.

I didn't watch Peaky Blinders, it's not my sort of thing, and I only watched one episode of Homeland.
She does have a nice set of top bollocks though.
I've been meaning to download Penny Dreadful.

Aunt Poll... Peaky Blinders is excellent mate, the UK version of Boardwalk empire, with lovely Brummie accents. Cant wait for the 3rd series, very under rated show IMO. Homeland was good for a while but has gone off the boil for me, the 3rd series was woeful and the 4th not much of an improvement.

I really didn't fancy Peaky Blinders, it's a genre I don't have much time for. Just finished watching the first two episodes of series 1, and I must say it's the dogs bollocks. So far it's better than Boardwalk Empire.
I watched the first series over the last two days and thought it was the best British drama since Life On Mars. Getting Series 2 sorted out ASAP.

Just finished watching this weeks GOT. That young lady in the cell opposite Bronn seemed very pleasant. I'd very much like to take her out to a Harvester and treat to her to a nice meal. I'm sure she'd be suitably impressed with the free salad bar.

I agree, The Shield the second best cop show after The Wire. Both brilliant.

She'd definitely get a dressing with the salad

I started watching Car Share last night when I was bored and ended up watching 4 of them on the trot.
The first thing I've liked from Peter Kay since Phoenix Nights.
Pretty funny and Kayleigh is absolutely delightful. I didn't recognise her, but she was young Mary in Phoenix Nights.

We are just finishing up episode 6 at the moment, the show is very simple and very funny, loved the way they grew on each other.

Also, couldnt agree more about Sian Gibson, she is adorable. Her best line came from the episode we just watched..."I dressed up as a yellow pepper last week and no Chinese kicked off".....was hilarious in context :D

I've been watching The Night Bus on C4. It's narrated by the man who played Rory Breaker in Lock, Stock etc. Thankfully they haven't chosen the N15 bus I use. There's been some misunderstandings on there on more than one occasion. The evening with the drunk Finnish girl was somewhat surreal. The poor bitch thought she was going to Tooting...

I watched the last two episodes of series 2 Peaky Blinders last night. What a fantastic show this is. I know it's been compared to Boardwalk Empire, but for me Peaky Blinders shits all over it.
Can't wait for the series 3. Great production values, utterly brilliant cast, fantastic storyline, and Thomas Shelby is one cool calculating fucker.

Glad I convinced you to watch it mate, like I said its the most under rated program on TV. I gave the comparison to Boardwalk Empire as its set in a similar time period but in the UK rather than the US. Boardwalk empire was excellent for 3 series and then tailed off and was carried by Buscemi for the final 2 series, Peaky Blinders is superior, i just hope they can maintain the standard that has been set.

Dont fuck with the Peaky Blinders!!!
