Don't ask about the camera. :-(

Part of the CFA, early Summer.

No matter how many times you go, the transformation of the area still looks amazing.

What about the actual stadium?! Come on JRB!! :P

Pictures on the way.

OH! Nice, fancy, internal, steel, spiral, stairways.

Part of the wooden hoardings in front of the stand have now been removed, giving a view of the stand at ground level.(see 1st set of pictures) Work continues on the internal fit out of the stand. Stairways, etc. Cladding is being added to the corner of the stand between the Colin Bell stand and the South stand. Just the lower part of the largest crane now remains. The stand looks superb in the flesh. Looking forward to it being finished and ready for the new season. :-)

First set of 9 pictures.

If it stairs all the way.... I wonder how long it will take from entering the stadium to reaching the back row of South Stand level 3! Could be quite a hike.

Pictures of the stadium from a distance. Apologies for the quality. Camera phone. Arrrgh!

Absolutely brilliant photos JRB (as always).

It looks absolutely incredible and you can really see the difference in the roof pitch from new to old - I think that South Stand is going to make a racket when it's complete - especially as they've used materials more conducive to keeping sound in. I've always hoped it would make an impact and I truly believe it will.

What's also good to see is just how pleasing the new stand is aesthetically. When you look at the stadia that can host CL finals, they're either iconic for being state of the art of for historic reasons. I know we've said it time and time again but it's such a grey mess generally - when the rest of the stadium is developed in keeping with the South Stand, it is going to look absolutely incredible and you can see it being one of the most iconic venues in the world. It's mad how badly the rest of the stadium has aged because of the materials used. I love the stadium don't get me wrong, but we've now 1 stand to match the ambition our owners have on and off the pitch. With the North stand not too far away and the collar site plans potentially being revealed over the next 12 months it's very exciting!

I've been banging on about the roof of the existing stadium, and its impact on acoustics for ages. Both its shape and materials are wrong for us. That's the first I've heard that the material are conducive to noise reflection. Is that definite?

Like you I've a sneaky feeling that the atmosphere will be transformed. Not because of the relocation of singers, although that will help,,but because of the way the noise will spread from those singers. If the materials are right, the angle of that roof will help too. If songs spread up and down that stand quickly it will make a huge difference. Exciting times. Thanks for the photos, jrb.

The original roof was designed to absorb crowd noise.
This was to enable the athletes to hear instructions and the starter's gun without being drowned out by the crowd

Thanks for the pics JRB, it looks fantastic, in fact, it looks that good the rest of the stadium looks shite compared to it! Can't wait to see it when the corners are finished as I think from the outside at least it will look brilliant!

DD - I'm pretty sure I've seen reference to the use of materials to enhance the atmosphere - as Squirty has posted, the Etihad was designed to the detail for athletics and that included a design that allowed noise to filter away from the track. I'll see if I can find anything more "concrete" confirming this (I don't pardon the pun).
