Lends credence to the view that the deal and price were agreed a while ago and £100 million is what Manuel thinks he's going to be worth in the future.

Was thinking that myself, this bidding pantomime isn't Txiki's “m.o” he doesn't operate this way, he's more like the SAS in and out before you know it...
Made up to the appease the scousers me thinks, the price of wax would've gone through the roof if not..

Unavoidable with the bigger/highly wanted players unfortunately. If anyone worth anything is moving, there are a lot of people who want to make a song and dance about it, especially if they believe it increases their share of the pie. Which it usually does.

Maybe we just don't like Liverpool because of the way they've taken Jimmy on a free and the way Brenda and their owners have spent the last two or three years talking shit about our club and our owners. I agree with you that this isn't really Txiki's or City's MO - seemingly strong arming players out of a club. Personally I think it's personal and it's coming from the board. Maybe they knew a year ago that Jimmy had been tapped up.

I've already said it a million times but Sterling will be England's best player for the next 10 years.

Loads more to his game than the likes of Walcott and Oxlade Chamberlain.

He's going to get better and will make us money in the long run. Either through silverware, marketing potential or future transfer fees.
Unbelievable that people can't see this. He's already England's most dangerous players now. People saying bid for Walcott because he's cheaper really don't have a clue. There 2 different players completely. Sterlings movement off the ball is underrated, and that will be key with the likes of silva and aguero around him.

Basic Economics at play here - supply & demand. If Sterling costs £50M or 50p if we want him we will pay as we can't force them to sell. Fees are only seen as too much or too little in hindsight. If Sterling is here for the next 5 years & we win 5 trophies that he has been a big part of then he's a steal. In hindsight did we pay too much or too little for Aguero - if we were going for him now he's be in the £70M bracket - likewise Zabaleta, cost around £8M unknown right back, absolute bargain. Lee Bradbury cost £3.5M, in hindsight worth about £2.50

It's all relative, it's not our personal money, squad & specifically the first 11 needs improving as a one time fix, then every summer we can shop around for a marquee signing if one is available

I think this is correct. We always knew this was going to cost close to £50m so the last weeks pantomime has been Liverpool managing the fact that there best player is leaving for a fee they couldn't contemplate spending on a single player. Istree my arse.... History is bunk.

Another way to look at it is......If Sterling cost 45-50mil...but Jovetic is sold for 15-17mil (as it looks like he could be off to Juve!)....only 30mil is coming off the books for Sterling....I'm sure by the end of the transfer window, when some of our own players are sold....the books will look a lot better and everything will balance out.....The most important thing for me, is that we get the players we target and not what the cost is going to be...as many have said...its not our money!;) just my opinion!

I don't believe City are leaking details of this.

I think it's all about Liverpool being seen to 'have us over' in the media, thus deflecting from the fact that one of the players from the 'best club in the world with the most istree' wants to leave & would sign for 'little City'.

Is the correct answer.

And that will bite them on the arse as now the whole world knows they've got £40m cash or more burning a hole in their pocket. Would have been better to keep shtum, do their business quietly while publicly saying Sterling isn't for sale. Then, when they've done their buying, sell him to us. But they'd rather go through a pantomime to appease their fans rather than keep quiet and do some good business. Says everything about that ridiculous, self-important club.

Absolutely. They really are pathetic aren't they ?

What would be even more pathetic is if they fucked this deal up. They are getting a good price for a player who wants to leave & have already signed one of ours for fuck all. Just get on with it ffs.
