Another Brazil goal for Firmino tonight. That's 4 goals in 9 international games for the second rate not top 4 fitting better off at the rags inconsistent player.

He'll soon be catching up on superstar Sterling's 1 in 16 record.
Wow that's incredible. 4 goals in 9 games for a guy that plays up front.

I still can't understand why we haven't bid for Fred who's got a similar record

Other than the almost tap-in goal he has been very average. He might turn out to be a Van Nisterooy / Dzeko type scorer. Might be great for United but not our type of player - we need the Neymar type.

He hasn't always played up front. Neymar being suspended means he is tonight. Not like 50m Sterling hasn't had more than a few stints up front is it?

He is sweet fuck all like Van Nisteltelrooy or Dzeko! WTF!

Why do you keep comparing Sterling and Firminho. Has he got a granddad called Nigel who lives over here? It's pretty obvious why we are chasing Sterling instead

Yep. Because sky tell us he's a good player and Martin Tyler sometimes makes a funny noise when he gets the ball. 50 million lol.

We need homegrown. Who would you buy then?

If city bought all their priority targets for £100 million a pop I wouldn't give a fuck as long as we brought them in....

The point is in my opinion (and this is a discussion forum after all) Sterling shouldn't be a priority target because he's a bang average player with a poor mental attitude.

Who we should be after to fill a quota? My opinion but not one single English footballer is good enough to be in any of the world's best sides. Bale isn't gonna happen yet but when he becomes available we should be bending over backwards to sign him.

Save the 50m up, promote from within or buy a cheap HG squad player for this season. When bale becomes available, we've got 50m banked to put towards his transfer fee.

So you would roll into the season with only 19 players that have big game experience?

I find it bizarre how people say Sterling is an average player as if they just watch him against us they see he's much more than that.

Bale isn't available this season. What makes you so sure he will be next season. Or the one after? What if he has a bad injury. What if he doesn't want to play for us. Not a good idea to bank money towards his fee when a transfer may never materialise

If that's what it takes meantime then so be it. In English football's current state the HG quota we use should, in my opinion, mainly be squad players. Our first 11 shouldn't be compromised and for me buying sterling and not Firmino for that sole reason would certainly be compromising our side.

Fair point on bale, all very true. But that doesn't mean we should say fuck it and go out and spend 50m on raheem sterling just because he's English and available.

I don't normally post half as much in the transfer forum and I certainly wouldn't get excited over any player I haven't seen much of. But what's irritating is the amount of posters who freely admit they've seen next to fuck all of Firmino other than the odd video or youtube clip but are adamant that he's not good enough for us.

I'd agree with that if Sterling wasn't good enough to start and improve our side, which I think he is. But when it comes to foreign players, we can have a maximum of 17, and we're already at that maximum. So imo, we really shouldn't be buying any more unless they're clearly going to start every game they're fit. So you really should be comparing Firmino to Kevin de Bruyne, since they're the same age and in the same league.

Firmino plays up front for a world class team whereas Sterling plays on the wing for England.

Ding ding ding! Of course, Sterling can't do much better than play for England - he can't help his nationality. But the very fact you've mentioned that Firmino is playing for a world class brazil side, and faring very well should suggest he might be worth a punt.

He's up front tonight and has played that role occasionally however has played behind the striker role too. Which is where he'd play for us more than likely.
