CITY/Aberystwyth Town
I know 1880 was our foundation year as St. Mark's, 1887 was the year we became Ardwick FC but 1894 was the naming of our club as Manchester City F.C.

I know a few top flight clubs across Europe started their research five years before marking their 125th anniversaries. So, has anybody heard of anything City are doing? Is there a forum, peergroup, anniversary committee? Have fan clubs thought about this yet? Anyway, I'd like to get the ball rolling with ideas...

Kits
Would City be willing to replicate the original all blue and white kit? [yes, I know there was one half/half effort before it] or would we, as fans, be willing to have a season in our original black kit, shifting the famous sky blue for away games instead? Many clubs, like Brentford etc, just bang out limited edition items. What can we offer that makes us stand far above the crowd?

Events
We're a massive club and things like City Live, Live For City (the kit launch), end of season dinners etc are pretty well organised. The Football League had their own programme. Maybe we could all pay 1894 prices? or £184.90 and everything is paid for the season.

The crest
We should have something tailored to stand us out - but reflect our many historic forms of crests. Some clubs go minimalist, others go OTT.

The fans
There should be an exhibition of fan photos, photos by and of fans from as far back as possible. Could City draft in the National Football Museum etc? Could we all dig into our lofts and find something totally unique to showcase?

All Time XI / Game 125
We could mark out and put to vote by those at the game; those abroad; those in Manchester - and see which games or XIs would be voted the all time greats. It'd be interesting to see who different demographics choose.
Then play a game with those XI's names on the back of the shirts. Charity auction the lot...

I know it is a few years off but this great club has been an institution to generations of my family and will be forever more engrained in our blood. I'd like to see us do something as a club across the EDS, Academy, MCWFC, Disabled team, senior squads, supporters teams, forums, fans, sponsors, everything connected to the club to show we had our past, we are the present and the future is brighter than bright.

This can't be true. I'm constantly being told that we have no history. Usually by supporters of a club founded 12 years after ours.

If we celebrate our 125th birthday in 2019/20, then we can't say that we're older than said club. If 1880 is our year of birth, then we should just wait til 2030 and celebrate properly.

We're not older.
That lot formed as in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR. But they adopted their new name in 1902.
Never mind what they say or do...

We should party in 2019/20 and 2030 too as the 150 years since we came about...

Newton Heath FC were liquidated in 1902 and Scum FC was formed as a new entity so they could write off Newton Heath's debts (much the same as happened with Ardwick FC and City). So if we were formed in 1894 then the rags were formed in 1902.

Does this mean FC united of wherever they happen to be playing were also formed in the eighteen hundreds ? As far as i'm concerned, Gods own were formed in 1894.

No, because you can't claim descent from a team just because you founded your new team on the basis of the old one. If I rounded up 10 people and went to a local field I couldn't proclaim my new AFC City team to legitimately be a descendent of MCFC. To claim descent you need to have some or all of the people involved in the club remain in their posts. When City reformed from Ardwick it was with the exact same managent structure, the same manager, the same players, the same ground. That is true descent, and that's why City's birth year should be 1880.

I'm waiting for @Gary James to come along and put us all straight on this matter ;-)
No need because everyone's been clear. To sum up....

1880 year of our first known game as St Mark's (emphasis on 'known' - we may yet find an earlier game; everyone assumed Turton was Lancs' earliest club until I researched Hulme Athenaeum, formed 1863)
1887 Ardwick founded (limited company but in essence a relaunch of Gorton AFC)
1894 MCFC founded - a new club that just happened to use the same ground, players, some directors and committeemen. But this is important, both Ardwick and MCFC existed at the same time for a brief while with Ardwick playing their last game AFTER MCFC founded. To all intents and purposes it became regarded as the same club, but for a brief period in 1894 Ardwick looked as if they would continue as a separate organisation.

Personally, the 125th anniversary of MCFC is very, very significant and should be celebrated. I'd suggest anyone with ideas should contact the club and make suggestions. The 100th anniversary was celebrated mostly in 1995, not 1994 because the Lee takeover had dominated the club during a period when preparations should have been made (while Swales and his supporting directors/management had not made any plans).

In terms of MUFC - formed 1902 as a new club. First known game as Newton Heath in Nov 1880 (1 week after the St Mark's earliest but, again, earlier games may be found).
Newton Heath was a general sports organisation before 1880, founded in 1878 BUT St Mark's also had a cricket team with games in the 1860s.

For me the pre-1894 history is vital, but there are still so many possible themes to follow/identify that clarity only comes with Ardwick and then MCFC. We should have a party in 2019 for the 125th and then have another for the 150th of St Mark's earliest game in 2030. Both are dates worth celebrating.

We had the centenary shirt in 1994 didn't we, so chances are they'll celebrate 125 years in 2019. 1894 seems to be the year they go off

Everything around the stadium points to 1894 as the year of the club's founding. There is the 1894 Suite, for example, not an 1880 one.

We should mark the occasion by doing something memorable. Winning the Champions League for example.
