I'm not Txiki's biggest fan but there is absolutely no way he should pay £50m for Sterling.

£40m is fair, £45m is too much, £50m is a joke.

We need to send a message to Liverpool and all the other clubs in this country that we
are no longer mugs who have to buy our way onto the top table.
The days of Lescott type transfers have gone.

If we lose out on Sterling so be it. I feel sorry for the lad but he can always join us next Summer.
We pay this and we'll continue having to pay "the City premium" .

Not sure where the mixed signals are.

If they don't sell him now they run the risk of losing him for a pittance in a years time. But thats a decision for their people to make.

The FA want to make it 12 but the Premier League are not having that and keeping it at 8 by the looks of it.

17 foreign, 8 HG and unlimited U21 players are the figures that is the current quota I think.

Ok. That's the attitude we had with Hazard. That turned out well didn't it?

Liverpool aren't asking for £50m beacaue we are rich, that is just their valuation of the player. Anyone that wants Sterling will pay £50m.

Same with Pogba. £71m is the asking price and City, Barcelona, who ever will have to pay that to get him.

For the sake of £5m some people would rather we risk ending up with another shitty second tier option like Javi Garcia, Scott Sinclair or Jovetic. If that happens we can kiss goodbye to winning anything next season.

Would they be silly to do that all because they received an offer £5m less than their valuation? Whereas it would be good for us to walk away or offer less than that a 4th time for the sake of the same £5m, even less.

We should just pay the £50M fee to get in a lad who will instantly improve our first 11 for years to come.

No-one cares about 'pride' or looking weak in the transfer market when you're lifting titles because of that 'weakness' come May. . .
 
They don't know what's right for them. The most clueless bunch of operators at a top flight club that I can think of.

Read suggestions in the papers that Liverpool will turn down £40m and chance their luck in January! Like to see City call their bluff and sit back and watch that plan unfold.

If they knock back £45m and lose him on a Webster they would have made a big mistake.

We haven't walked away or ended our chances of signing the player, so I'm not sure why you feel the need to flap about it.

Sterling isn't Hazard.

Pogba is a statement signing and yes, I'd pay £71m for him to prove we can mix it with the Barcelona's of this world.

What if the people in charge don't think he's worth £50m. Should we still pay it?

Or maybe try to get him a bit cheaper, and if that doesn't work move on to alternatives.

We don't need to worry about that though. Liverpool can manage their own finances. City need to focus on getting in the right players this summer to challenge on all fronts.

Say Sterling does stay all season at Liverpool, where does that leave City? Will we wait for a year and sacrifice winning trophies? Will we spend £30m on a non homegrown player who isn't as good?

Last I read somewhere we needed 4 based on squad size and maybe 2-4 more club trained. We're bringing a few of the youngsters in (but perhaps they take up those 2-4 club trained spots?). Hate having to figure this quota out every time.

So that's Delph, Clichy, Hart and Wright? Maybe just get rid of Willy FFS and sign a HG keeper to save us from this rubbish.

Everything I have said has been cynical but purely hypothetical with specific conjuctions, hardly flapping. Can't an alternative be offered.

It's the same as the Delph thread, people would rate him if only he was named Delphino. Whereas in here you're "flapping" of you question the process if a protracted transfer. Discussion is overrated, lets all label those who are contrary to ourselves.

You're not understanding my point. We aren't paying a premium anymore, £50m is Liverpool's valuation for Sterling based on his potential and because he is home grown. They are not asking for £50m because we are a rich "oil" club.
 
This is one big cluster fuck. Dippers are hard as nails when selling a valuable asset. They don't negotiate when selling top players ie Torres, Suarez now Raheem they set a fee and you either pay it or fuck off.

I can't believe we thought we could do what Madrid and Chelsea couldn't. I think all the antics of Raheem has made their resolve even sterner in sticking to their high valuation... They don't sell to rivals (we are in their eyes) unless you meet their fee.

I have no doubt city have played some part in is agitation to force a move the boy has been castigated in public by one and all linked to Liverpool including the media. I hope we resolve this soon preferably by giving them the cash and let him rip it up with silva and serge.

Yes we should. Because we absolutely need him. That's obvious.

What alternatives? Who else out there is a young, homegrown winger and good enough to get into our starting eleven?

It's easy to call them clueless at the moment, but if they end up getting the full £50m then you'd have to say their stance has been vindicated.

Even though they've covered themselves in no glory in this affair, their allies in the media will ensure they win the PR battle.

If we get Sterling and win the league though, then we've won the war.
