Rony Lopes

He's a lot more exciting and forward thinking than Nasri and Navas.

If we were 1-0 down after 75 mins and were making a sub, I'd have him over the other two all day long.

How have you come to this conclusion?

Lopes looks to get forward at every opportunity. He's a risk taker who might have poorer possession stats than the other two, but that will be down to the safety first approach of the others.

Compared to Nasri who slows the game right down and constantly looks to score the perfect goal. And Navas who would rather turn back and pass to the full back when in a promising position than beat a man or put a first time cross in.

Lopes needs to show consistency at reserve level before he is introduced into the first team. Even his loan with Lille was fairly hit and miss. I don't think the lad is ready yet although I wouldn't want to lose him. Denayer however is ready IMO.

He was showing consistency at reserve level 2 years ago.

I watched him a lot at Lille, I'm fairly confident I watched all of his games, but may have missed the odd one. He was consistently their best player, the only inconsistency came from his injuries, and the fact their manager picked some awfully defensive teams and gave him very little to work with. He was the best player they've had since Hazard.

He's a potential gamechanger, he should really be on the bench every game this season as he's one of our few players who can come on and really up the tempo of our attacking play. (if you assume Sterling, Silva, Yaya and Aguero are already playing) Whether he's got the consistency to be starting all the time, he'll have to prove that, but he should definitely be on the bench. A lot of the time our bench just looks like all the senior players who are fit and not starting, instead of actually players who provide a different option and there is a situation where you would actually want to bring them on

By the end of the month we will know what MP thinks about Lopes. I think he could well stay at the club for the first few months then out on loan in January if he isnt getting game time. It depends on who comes in and whoelse goes. Is he worth a place on the bench from the pre season so far for me he hasnt done enough. I look at Nacho and he has out done him and so too JD. So with the area he plays and the players he is up against another years loan out would benefit him more in my opinion. I think with players already here its a hard call. But saying that without Milner who was often used out wide there is still space for him but if KDB signs then there isnt sadly for him.

Agree with @BigOscar - he should be one of our go-to impact players. Twenty minutes left, need a goal. He'll run past someone, free up some space or take a shot from 20 yards. Players who can just up the tempo like *that* in a heart-beat are invaluable.

I think if we let this lad go, we would put a similar clause in place as we have with Rekik - allowing us first dibs further down the line and any sell on fees etc. City aren't so stupid these days to allow young talent to just walk away.

I Thing it definatly highlights the need for a stepping stone between EDS and Premier League - for some it is just too big a gap to bridge straight away. City are doing it right by sending them on loan for a year etc to get that first team - competitive league experience.

I'm not completely convinced Lopes is going to be good enough to be anything other than a backup player at City. That being said I still believe he has the potential to be more than that so signing him up to a longer term deal is something we should be pursuing. I suspect we'll try to do that, although I doubt it'll be a 5 year term like Denayer's is, as he's a far more proven commodity. If Lopes chooses not to sign then we'd get compensation from whoever he joined next summer, which would include a percentage sell on fee as well.

Didn't we just give Ntcham a 5 contract before his loan to Genoa? I'd assume that him getting a long-term deal would, hopefully, mean the same for Lopes.

Let him renew his contract and loan him again to Premier League club.
Agree. A year long loan at a premier league club e.g Everton and we'd soon find out what he's made of. You can't gauge much more from another year in France, Belgium etc.

Won a world cup vs decent loan spell at Lille?

... and with Navas more suited in 4-3-3. But this is silly though, as you can't even compare these two. Totally different type of players. Up to the manager to sort out who and when to use. I know one thing and that is to give Lopes an extended deal with the option to prove himself at the club and not on loan. Than it's totally up to the player.

I would say Lopes is far more suited to a 433 tbf, but Navas is a decent player & not the clown some make him out to be. He is a worthy alternative to Lopes for a first team spot, as Lopes has done next to fuck all in football so far, but imo he has real potential & I hope we get to find out if he's got what it takes & don't lose him without knowing.

Even if he's 'only' good enough for back up it's well worth having him. A club trained player who's actually good enough to fill in or come on as an impact sub helps us immensely, especially in the CL.

If you play 4-3-3 with out and out wingers, it's defo Navas that is suited more. If you play it with wingplayers more held back and going inside (more 4-5-1) it's Lopes. Just shows what little difference there is in systems and one player better suited than the other. Doesn't say any of the two is a better player, it's who makes the team play better.

You don't usually play a 433 with out & out wingers, hence Lopes is better suited. He scores goals.

True, however if we view him as a backup at best then it's less likely Lopes himself will be willing to put pen to paper.
