De Bruyne?

Whilst we do need to strengthen in midfield, Silva is getting older and has been relied upon so much by City since he arrived. He's a player the opposition know they need to man mark if they want to beat us and now we've added Sterling it means we're an even bigger threat. De Bruyne has the potential to add the creativity we sometimes have lacked and fill in for Silva over the long term. Ideally they can play together for several seasons but once Merlin is gone, we'll have someone to fill that role (though I can't imagine anyone doing it quite like Silva does). It's still a signing that we very much need.

When we get Barcelona in the CL what does everyone look at? How will our defence cope with Messi, Neymar and Suarez? Last season they were only really worried about Aguero and Silva and that meant they could commit a few players further forward and hope to contain those two.

If we instead have a side with Aguero, Silva, Sterling and De Bruyne they then have a lot more to deal with and if Alves decides he wants to get forward so be it, he'll wish he hadn't when the ball gets to one of those players. We're an entirely different proposition. If we sign Pogba as well then we can also compete in the midfield battle and look to run the game a little better. We close the gap considerably to the likes of Real, Barca and Bayern with these two additions. Without them we're likely to play Navas or Nasri... not quite the same proposition.

I concur. Very good post.

I think there's something very strange about thinking that Sterling and KDB don't immeasurably strengthen our squad exactly where it needed to be stronger. In Europe in particular Nasri and Navas got found out. On the flip side to improve our CM we need truly world class players as we have quite a few very good ones. That's hard when the only one seemingly on the market currently is Pogba and he is as much potential as actual readymade quality.

We're still preparing the bid, don't panic it's not as easy as just saying we'll offer you 40m for De Bruyne. It does actually take 12 weeks to prepare.

Out of interest other than making the offer like you stated what more preparation do you need? 12 weeks of prep to make a bid, really?

You have to raise the pigeons and have them shipped over from Wolfsburg mate, it takes time.

If we add De Bruyne, outside of Real and Barca, we would have the best attack in world football, without question. Whilst our CM options aren't great, as long as we use players who effectively shield the back four, then we should be more than capable of competing against the best. We will have a front four who can score and create against anyone, eventually when the quality comes around, we'll upgrade, but as I say, as long as the midfield is prepared to protect the defense, we'll more than hold our own and will actually look a balanced side.

I also thought this.he was a DM when he first joined us.
He can play there as can MD but it is not their best position and neither are particularly suited to the role. Kompany doesn't have the skills required to be an effective CM player for a top team.

KDB makes us attack wise more attractive and efficient.

We have Delph (underrated) Fernandhino and Yaya who I feel will revert to DM who can play in front of back 4.

Let's get this one in the bag

The Guardian: Despite interest from PSG, City is De Bruyne's first choice and the club are increasingly confident of signing him.

The Guardian: Kevin De Bruyne is expected to be City's final signing of the summer unless an exceptional player becomes available.
Then we're screwed. Our weaknesses in defence and midfield are obvious. We're just doing the Ferguson thing of buying attacking players while neglecting critically weak areas.

probably the most boring upper echelon transfer ever, this.

can't wait until it happens, mind.

He fueled our rise by neglecting those areas and paved the way to them falling out of the CL. That's when we started winning every derby against them by dominating their awful midfield and exploiting their crap defenders.
We haven't got crap decenders though. Our worst ones are better than their best ones.

Then there will be loads of transfer windows where we can buy defenders, if we find we need to. What Ferguson did & Barca do & Real Madrid do, is keep freshening the attack. It inspires players & fans & sponsors.
