MANCHESTER CITY want to sign £20 million rated Chelsea reject Kevin De Bruyne.

Manuel Pellegrini has target the Belgian as a must-have January signing

City boss Manuel Pellegrini has targeted the Belgian international (above) who only moved to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in January, as a must have addition to a squad currently hit by injuries and financial fair play restrictions.

He believes that the 23-year-old attacking midfielder who was part of his country’s World Cup finals squad would be a useful addition to a side looking to retain their Premier League title.

De Bruyne joined Chelsea from Genk in January 2012 for £7 million and was heralded as a player destined for greatness at Stamford Bridge.

But the opportunities never came and after just three appearances he was shipped out on loan to Werder Bremen for a season before joining Wolfsburg for £18 million on a permanent deal just under 12 months ago, giving Chelsea a healthy profit.

But City scouts have been impressed by his displays in the Bundesliga and believe at the second time of asking he can become a big hit in the Premier League under Pellegrini.

Wolfsburg will want at least £20 million for the player who has an eye for goals - especially important for City who have been rocked by injuries to their main three strikers, Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic.

City still have to be careful on the buying front after being fined £49 million for breaching financial fair play rules and being restricted during the summer transfer window to a net spend of the same amount.

But De Bruyne will be within the acceptable budget if City can negotiate a deal around the same figure that Wolfsburg paid for the Belgian

Better for Wolfsburg than he was for Chelsea. I'm not sure he'd be a Best XI starter here but would be a useful player who would offer something different. He can actually cross the ball and creates a lot of chances for Wolfsburg's useless strikers. If there is any truth to this, I guess he'd be an alternative to Reus who looks to be going to Real Madrid.

He looked top drawer against Dortmund the other other day, top assistant in Germany as well.

He might not have been Mourinho's cup of tea but he is still a top player.

One to watch, definitely!

Isnt this just another very good, rather than world class, player?

Surely the player we need is a real game changer? and not a 20m 'useful' type.

Not a position that needs strengthening at all, especially with most of our top prospects being in similar positions. Can't see it tbh

He is literally a Ginger Milner and Maureen was mad not to give him a chance and let him go. Still; just like Arteta, Torres, Rooney, Terry, Luiz, Benatia, that twat Kaka and a host of others not good enough for us :)

Absolutely awesome when you have Arab Oil money backing your club and you can come out with comments like this.

Interesting choice and as much as I would love to see Reus it is better looking for alternatives.

if his position is a winger, we should sign Sterling instead. we need fast pace wide player.

Does anyone know if he would count as homegrown? He was at Chelsea as a youth player but was loaned out almost the entire time so I'm not sure if that disqualifies him.

Wasn't good enough for Chelsea, so why would be be good enough for us?

If we need a quick, skilful winger we should go for Bale. He'd transform this club more than any player since Aguero or Yaya. Absolutely fucking quality the lad, totally different level to the likes of De Bruyne who's no better than Navas.

KDB is easily good enough for Chelsea. His only mistake was to pick a fight with Mourinho...

Do people watch games outside the PL? He's easily good enough for City.

He wasn't "good enough" for Chelsea because he was never given a proper chance. He played less than 180 minutes for them. He's been the 2nd best Bundesliga player in the League behind Robben and has Wolfsburg in 2nd place.

Anyway, I doubt he'll make the same mistake twice. Unless a big club has a starting spot ready for him he'll stay at Wolfsburg, since they're the richest club in that League behind Bayern.
