Rony Lopes

My perception is that Lopes feels chances will be limited and wants to leave for game time. We don't want to sell but it's better to get a fee for him next summer rather than lose him for free the summer after. Personally I'm not sure Lopes will make it at the very top but I'd certainly hope if we do sell we install a buy back clause.

I'd be very disappointed if we sold Lopes, especially just days after "promoting" him to the first team.

Another loan would make more sense, as I think he'll have limited opportunities if/when we sign De Bruyne. Personally I'd rather sell Nasri and give Lopes a chance.

Completely agree. We'd get more money for nasri, save more wages, and give Lopes more opportunities. He's obviously not as good currently as Nasri so it's a risk but risk worth taking.

Or he's come back from loan, had pre-season with the first team and quite simply isn't at the level required. If that's the case then sell him and promote the next kid rather than block his path
This
All this 'woe is the CFA' if they let him go is complete bollocks
Other lads won't be put off, hopefully they will aspire to be like Denayer and be in the squad

A couple of months ago I was slaughtered for saying he wouldn't get in the first team, and I still stand by it, although I'd love him to succeed.
But watch some of the lads 'below' him, they are already a better fit for our team

Disappointing news but at this stage it is too much of a risk to lose Nasri than keep Lopes imo. And besides that if he isn't prepared to sign a new deal there isn't much more the club can do.

Spot on, signing De Bruyne would allow for Nasri to leave and give more opportunities for Lopes. This is something that has to be done more often regardless of it being successful or not.

But it says his contract expires next year, and he doesn't want to renew. So not sure how another loan makes sense. The only sensible thing would be to sell him. If he was as good as we need him to be, better teams than Lyon would be in for him...

Ah, sorry - I thought he had two years left on his contract.

So we get rid of a very decent player to test a young player and it might not work, where is the logic in that. If he is good enough he will displace the established player anyway

I would send him out on loan again, but if he wants to leave, I guess the clubs decision is made for them.

I would be very disappointed if we lost him after the official, and very public promotion to the first team. It may have been partly on merit and partly to convince him to extend his contract but it just would not reflect well on our youth development.

That said, we have some very promising talent coming through the ranks (none least the forgotten man Pozo) so perhaps we allow him to leave to further his career and we bet on the next cycle of youngsters.

I have my doubts that he'd have made it here anyway. But I do hope this makes us ensure returning loan players have more than 1 year left on their contract from now on. After a season of regular football, they can easily have their heads turned and think their future lies elsewhere. Then we're left with no option but to sell due to the contract situation. Sign all the promising youngsters to long deals BEFORE the loan.

Yup looks like Lyon is ready to pounce on this opportunity to get him. City Watch hinted that his agent is aware Rony likes Ligue 1 and wouldn't mind going back so here we are. Unfortunate as we never got a real chance to see him here if we do sell. Hopefully there's a buy back clause.

No De Bruyne replaces Nasri and Nasri leaves for a starting place elsewhere ala Sanchez at Barca, you need a balanced squad, Nasri may get shifty with a lack of games. Lopes then comes in and plays sporadically like Nasri will this season if De Bruyne signs. This whole proven bullshit wears thin man, how can anyone prove themselves without a chance. So if Lopes does displace Nasri, you still keep Nasri? Sell him whilst he still has value now and move on with De Bruyne and Sterling being the new attacking outlets. With all that bring said, this could end up happening next season if Lopes signs a new contract and goes out on loan.

The better option will be to sell nasri to juve so rony takes his place as nasri has outlived his usefulness. Furthermore that frees a non-homegrown spot and save us a couple bucks in wages.

So sell Nasri and then risk Lopes leaving on a free next summer? Bloody genius that mate.

It makes sense business wise and for squad balance. Nasri isn't a first teamer anymore if De Bruyne comes in, I think people forget this. I believe this would also entice Lopes to sign a new contract
