I like Rony and would love to see him get an opportunity ahead of Navas and Nasri. But even that wouldn't be first 11 football and if that's what he requires and wants to move on then so be it, we should aim to do a similar deal to the one with Ntcham, with a loan and buy back & sell on clauses. Lopes will make it somewhere.
 
Doesn't need to be better than who he would replace in the first team squad right now.

It's all about foresight, in the next 3 years overall its quite possible he would make a bigger/better contribution than say Nasri/Navas over the 3 year period.

We have others coming up behind him as well so if he didn't cut the mustard we could all move on.

To have sent him out on loan for game time which went pretty well and then not give him an opportunity afterwards is criminal.
 
wish we could sell him with a good buyback clause in case he turns better out there

Agree, I think he will be a good player in the future, but just not good enough for City. When KDB comes, our attacking force is one of the best in world football so the standard is extremely high.
 
It's a difficult one with Lopes. He's not quite as good as some of our other prospects like kelechi but it's very possible he could develop into a useful squad player, easily as good as the likes of navas and Nasri, that would be good enough to make it worthwhile keeping him around for the precious homegrown and club trained status he'll possess. The problem is, he's not currently quite there but needs games to improve. He's currently about 5/6th in line for 1/2 starting spots, If we can't tie him down to a new contract and get him another loan somewhere, preferably in the premier league then we may as well sell him now than keep him around for a year not playing much and have him leave on a free next year.

We will never know how good he is unless he is given a chance,throw him in against the lesser teams and then we will see!

The issue seems to be that he doesn't want to sign a new contract. If that's the case, there's no real point in giving him any first team chances.
 
Someone on twitter intimated that he was demanding a first team level contract. Sounds similar to Sturridge
