Post match thread - City v Chelsea

Yes, mate. We all make mistakes but the lack of correlation between pre- and actual season performances is there to be seen year after year. Makes you wonder how long the flappiest flappers have been watching football.
I criticised our pre-season preparation but also said that the only games that matter are the ones where there are points or trophies at stake.

I've also long felt that there's an inverse correlation between preseason and regular season. The better we look in preseason, the worse the regular season seems to be and vice versa.

Yesterday was fantastic from start to finish and the players showed an almost insane desire to fight and win often missing last season. Every player was on form and when that happens in a game we take some stopping.I have no idea what it looked and sounded like on the tv but the singing and noise was brilliant in the stadium.I spoke to a lad on the new third tier on the bus back and he said it was almost all lads in there, just like the kippax at Maine Road.I was in the South stand lower and the atmosphere was 100% better than last season.Long may it continue!

Very interesting comments from Vinny about how we set traps all over the pitch.

That is exactly how it seemed, allowing Chelsea to play in certain areas of the pitch, and knowing what they would do when they got into those positions.

We're seeing it unfold with Sterling in the team. He's actually tucking in, rather than an outright wide man.

It's allowing Silva to move so freely and Sterling is absolutely crucial, simply because teams fear his pace.

In addition, it's also improving Kolarov, who knows he's got someone diligent enough to cover his attacking forays.

With KDB on the right, the options and movement is on Barcelona's level, outside of Messi being a freak of nature.

One thing I will say, I have no clue why we keep telling Joe to play that wide kick out to Sagna. Yes, Sagna won it every time, but it's just cheap gifting of possession because we have nobody around for the knockdown.

It's bizarre when you consider how careful and measured we are with the actual football.

Hart needs to be much more alive to rolling the ball out down the centre or sending Sterling away on a test of pace down the other side.

what a joyous day, no sleep whatsover, too pumped. Just love it when everyone is on board and wanting it. I still believe we gifted it away last year, the attitude, body language and transformation of a few players is something to behold. Well done everyone.

After the 3 early Aguero chances my 'typical City' radar was going off bigtime. Could see Mourinho doing his classic 1-0 with a nicked goal, on the back of a Begovic MOTM.

Thankfully the lads were immense all day, humiliated Mourinho who has gone one further and made even more of an embarassment of himself, and that's after we let them off lightly!

One thing I found odd is that motd stats had Chelsea with more possession, wouldn't have thought that! Makes the result even more pleasing in a way!

I did love the comment someone on the Guardian made that parking a bus in front of a bloody great tank is rarely a good idea.

The Sky Stats had it 50/50 posession, which I don't care about because their 50% was in areas that didnt hurt us, they can play infront of us all day long coz they aint getting through.

The MOTD stat was probably the % of possession they showed in the bias highlights

Not surprised at all, when we had the ball we rarely messed about with it, constantly trying to make chances and get in behind, when they had the ball at times they just seemed happy to keep it and have a break from Aguero, Sterling, Silva and Kolarov running them ragged. The possession was pretty even but we used it so much better.

That was my fear thank God it didn't happen! They are the modern day Leeds United of old,a snarling cheating bunch of cunts, supported by gobby chavvy morons and led by a self loving ungracious deluded prick who believes his own hype.Nobody likes them except the arse licking media and old big head Jose's days are numbered as it starts to unravel around him.

.... Fair play to them, some know they were well beaten.

Another thing is City have successfully roughed up and unsettled Costa in two
consecutive games at the Etihad.

He likes a physical battle but I'm afraid he's come off second best against Kompany and Mangala, even if some of the tackles have been over the odds in terms of legality.

Hats off to Kolarov. Every time we attacked he was sprinting to overlap with Sterling. We absolutely killed Chelsea down our left flank. Every body played well. Aguero was excellent and so was Silva.

Chelsea were cynical in the extreme. Their sole tactic seemed to be to win free-kicks around our area.

I was right in the front row and I must say the skill of Hazard is unbelievable. He makes them. Imagine Chelsea without Hazard.

Yeah we did, both the attacking left wings were the battle and we won them both, hats off to Sanga and Kolarov

Incredible that their first chance at goal came on 70 minutes, shows what a good job yaya, fernandinho and the back 4 did at stifling them
