Otamendi

I feel the lack of news/progress with the Pogba and De Bruyne transfers has led many posters to become desperate for any new signing.

We didn't need a new centre back, this signing just hinders the development of Mangala and Denayer.
And you think this is why the club have gone for him, because a few members of the transfer forum on here have been flapping?

£32m for a Centre Half we don't really need. Very odd.

De Bruyne you can see the need/value of, but this one? Nope. Baffling and wont exactly have made Mangala grow in confidence either.

City can play over 60 games this season. Again do we want to win every trophy yes? So we need world class players now. Currently the only world class defender City has is Otamendi. Those saying we don't need him are being very loyal but its misplaced. We needed this signing. Denayer will get his chance as if he would sign a new contract. He will have been told no doubts that he will get the odd home prem game, plenty of cup games and maybe even early stages of the chumps league provided we get a decent draw. Again we needed this signing. Kompany hasn't been world class for over a year now and Mangala isnt quite there yet.

Bizzare move. He is class but this will destroy the confidence of both Mangala and denayer.

We're in 4 competitions.
We need strength in depth.
This fella will give us flexibility at the back and make sure vinnie doesn't get over used after 2 injury prone years.
The more depth we have the better surely?

I still think there's a big transfer out to balance things out a bit. Nasri being the obvious option.

You might be right but budget decision on whether to buy is made separately from who to sell.

In terms of the P&L impact, which is what FFP looks at, they're dealt with in a slightly different way.

Assuming Otamendi signs for 5 years in year 1 he'll cost his transfer fee divided by 5, using 31.7 that'd be 6.3 million. (all this excludes agent fees and general extras)

The fee for Dzeko (assuming it's recognised in the current financial year) would be recognised after taking away his residual value. So you might find with Dzeko we make a substantial profit in terms of an accounting profit on disposal as he was here some time and his book value from his original value was quite low. Dzeko's fee will probably cover the amortised charge for Delph and some for Otamendi this year, which is a quiet boon for the club when everyone was complaining about what a low fee we got for Dzeko.

The usual naysayers are out.

Just purely from a footballing perspective I don't see anything negative in this transfer. For those who think that this will effect Mangalas confidence, you need to give your head a wobble. And if quim does think that way then he doesn't have the mental fortitude to play at this club and should go and wipe his fanny.

Did you see this one coming mate and more to the point I take it this time we`ve got our man ?

Didn't see it coming but did suggest couple weeks ago he was coming to us after Pellegrini spoke directly with him at Copa America training camp and United were briefing off record they didn't want him.

Mendes isn't even his agent. He's been brought in by his actual agent because he couldn't get the job done.
