Mike Summerbee on Talksport

Listening to it on the headphones whilst working. Its making the day pass much quicker

Did he really say he set up the winning goal in the 1970 league cup final with a broken leg?

its not quite up there with Berts broken kneck, but its still chuffin amazing

I walked out of work one day last June and Buzzer was stood next to my car in the car park. I said "hello there Mike, are you well?" and he just said "afternoon, very well than you!" and as i just drove off home he gave me a wave. That was it. All very random!

Like Many Bluemooners, I was at this game in May '68, absolutely incredible atmosphere....

I remember the game well.

Drove up to Newcastle in good time so went into a pub close to St James's with a couple of mates.
Unfortunately fighting between fans broke out with glassware being thrown from each side. getting out was difficult, we turned the table we were sat at on its side and inched it towards the exit but then the opposing fans threw their glasses onto the ceiling showering us all with glass splinters.
Eventually got out without serious injury more by luck than good judgement.

I remember the result and the elation but we couldn't get out of Newcastle fast enough and stopped for an after game drink and takeout well away from the venue.

It was my 1st trip to Newcastle that day the atmosphere was special, I had a walk around the ground after the match, their city fans everywhere, the following season was very different losing to a Wynn Davies 89th minute header, the atmosphere was very different as well, also nice to get home in one piece?

Got to the ground early with 3 mates. While we were waiting a big piece of piss and about 10 geordies came up to us. As far as i could understand they wanted a go. We declined the offer, and off they went calling us wimps and girlies. During the game (I was in the Leazes end )sp. This long streak of piss came past me on his own. "Ok pal ?" "Still fancy a go ?"...... I still remember his reply. "It wasn't me. "

It was actually the equaliser, flicked on a corner for Mike Doyle to poke home. Buzzer had just got up after being treated for the injury and fell straight down again and was subbed straight away, only discovered later that he had a hairline fracture in the leg.

why?

it was fucking brilliant and dead on the money

It was embarrassing the guy almost had a meltdown. It's almost as embarrassing as when we have a parade and he mentions united and refers to as "them lot down the road" just say united we all know who you mean, although why mention united during our parade? Buzzer does everything we slag others for doing, great player who I didn't get to see but I'm glad sky told him not to go back, proper showed us up that day, bad enough rooney scored that goal as well.

Granted he was ranting but he was being passionate about the club and was mostly correct, although the morons sat next to him didn't know it at the time. "we'll come here and take them apart one day." One season later was the 1-6...

I can't fault the guys passion for the club he's old school, I do wish we could have someone represent the club better on sky though, which brings the question of how the fuck Dwight Yorke still gets air time?

I think Andy Hinchcliffe does a good job but unfortunately they only tend to use him for lower league games and some cup games.

That's the problem we don't have enough high profile ex blues apart from the ones that signed for us on the back end of their careers that would get invited on sky, maybe SWP will be invited once he retires? I can only imagine he'd have good things to say about us but at the same time be critical when needed.

I disagree, he didnt do anything wrong. What exactly did he do that you object to?

I cannot believe any blue can criticize Buzzer for that. I do not think it was an uncontrolled rant and he was proved completely right in his prediction that we would go there soon and destroy them. He was not embarrassing in the way that Lou Macari or Paddy Crerand were when they used to comment on the rags.

TBH I wish that Sky would get more characters to commentate on matches rather than the drivel that comes from the likes of Redknapp.

Too many of the younger pundits are more concerned with fitting in and not rocking the boat whereas the older guys do not have to worry so much about it.
