Improving in the CL

Still got our L plates on in Europe .
Again we were done by the dark arts again .
When are we going to learn .

I know I'll get slated for this but I think as fans we need to create a better atmosphere on these nights, part of that is to stop booing the UEFA anthem...Not saying this is the problem and if we hadn't we would have won etc. but we as fans need to fall in love with this competition and at the moment we don't even like it, however it is very important to the players and the owner...At the moment most on here including me would rather lose tonight then on Saturday, offered a CL or PL the majority would take the league, probably no other set of fans of the clubs such as Barca, Real, Bayern etc. they want Champs League. I think Silva, Vinny, Aguero, Yaya would want CL over League this season. For fans the issues with UEFA are deep rooted and will maintain for a long time but for the players and owners I think we need to move on and lose the negativity for the overall good of City football club

1: Dont play such a highline to be found out against long balls every year, players at this level are well equipped to beat off-side trap

2:Be prepared to take tough decisons, if that means dropping yahya or any other player to provide solidity in midfield then so be it.

3:Play to our strengths rather than letting teams set the tempo, play like we play in the league i.e attacking approach

4: Concentrate for full 90 mins

Spot on i think booing Uefa anthem wont help, moreover it just creates a negative vibe from the very start

Really is a bizzarre sense of deja vu tonight. First time against a proper European big gun, that I genuinely expected us to boss things, yet if anything (considering how vulnerable and conservative Juve were) we played as poorly as I can remember. The team (Fern excepted) didn't look right pyhsically or mentally and despite being gifted the lead, we never grasped the opportunity and after letting in the equalizer rather wilted away with barely a whimper.
I don't think Pellegrini did much wrong with the starting line up ... KDB maybe would have offered better service into Bony and a more direct style of play but tbf Nasri played great against Palace and we don't know how well KDB has settled in or how he's trained so far. Pelle can't really account for Silva, Yaya and Nasri playing that poorly and lethargically (was Dave really fit ?) or Bony and Sterling missing gilt edged chances.
The most obvious issue for me is that Yaya (who I love and admire) simply doesn't have the legs to get up and down the pitch, he's constantly struggled against decent teams in Europe and I wonder if he is capable of putting in two big performances in in four days anymore ? Certainly in a central two he is not up to it and leaves Dinho having to clean up fires all over the place. I think we need to try a two from Dinho/Nando/Delph and leave the big man on the bench against top teams, as even with him playing further up he can't press well enough and we get passed around too easily.
This is the crux of our problems as far as I can see, though its unlikely Pelle is going to be bold enough to leave him out is it ? How about at least resting him the weekend before the game providing its a winnable league match ?

Same problem we've had year on year, the only consistent is the outfield of Yaya, Kompany, Silva and Nasri.

The problem lies there. Silva and Nasri where fucking terrible, surprised no one is mentioning Silva had his worst performance in years.

Needs a change of culture.

This will include CL seasoned and driven players and management.

We are a long way from challenging for the trophy and not surprised in the slightest that our league from doesn't mirror that in Europe.

Why buy a player who is going to get us further in the competition (supposedly) and put him on the bench for most of the game?
So he hasn't trained with us long enough but that unpredictability may have been the spark that ignited some of the others.
And why put a defender on who hasn't played with the team before when an experienced team player is on the bench?

We need Aguero healthy first and foremost. He's the only player in the squad that consistently finishes. We are a good squad, but we seem to always have injuries to key players in the CL. I don't think Bony is good enough to win us games against the likes of Juve, Barca etc. We deserved a point today in my opinion, possibly even 3. Buffon came up big (as one would expect, amazing keeper) a couple times and Sterling should have done better in front of goal on a couple occasions.

If I were Sterling I would put in some extra time on the training ground on finishing. If he can become clinical in front of goal he can be a world class player for us.

We also seem to play differently in Europe. Very tentative and slow. Like we lack confidence and don't believe in ourselves.

After Seville putting 3 past BM, we need a big win in our next match.

I think we''ll still advance but we need to win the group, or a match up against Barca/Bayern is inevitable in the R of 16.

after watching the game last night the team has to realise that we cannot play these games as we do so in the premier league every weekend. Yes we can control the possession but we were trying to walk it into their box when we should have been testing buffon on more that the occasions we did.

Got taught a very hard lesson last night against a team that is not in great form, they gambled and took shots when the opportunity arose and scored from both - something we need to address. We cant continue to dominate possession and not shoot when the opportunity is there cos we wont get points for ball retention

not the end of the world but it is going to be tough

I'm not in the position to be able to attend CL matches, so take this with a grain of salt, but from what I see on TV the atmosphere seems different for European matches at the Etihad. It seems as if the supporters are somewhat nervous and I believe the players feed off that energy. In league matches it seems as if the fans know we are going to win so they are louder and more supportive. Also, the time and day of the week I'm sure plays a factor as the CL matches are played mid-week in the evneing.

First and foremost we cant afford passengers in our team, ability without application is a waste of time.

Nasri was complete Iggy Pop (The Passenger), the whole offensive movement seemed off from the get go, too narrow and slow in the extreme, and he was a major factor in that. Needed Navas or De Bruyne from the beginning, Bony would have seen some service from the side instead of all straight on. Regardless, chances were had and not taken, need to find that cutting edge...
