Media bias against City

The media seem to make the basic error of assuming that having played the game to a decent level somehow qualifies these former players to be
able to critique others performances.
The game that Nicholas and others of his ilk played was a hugely different game from the one they are being asked to comment on, and it really shows .
They sound pretty much like the sorts down the pub who trot out the same prejudiced nonsense, but then that is where the sorts get it from.
The pundits spout and the great unwashed lap it up - sorted!

Thompson, Merson et al have to be see for what they really are. The pretence is that these guys offer great insight and expertise but in fact what they offer is only opinion.

In some cases the opinion of ex players is well worth listening to - Neville and Souness for instance. But too often the opinions we hear not just on Soccer Saturday but Talksport, 5 live and many more are too easily formed and swayed by club and personal allegiances - their own personal biases and agendas - and is based on an inadequate knowledge base.

Bluntly, I value the opinion of the bloke that sits next to me at the stadium more than Charlie Nicholas's, because he has seen every single minute that City have played in the league this season, and Nicholas hasn't.

As for Merson, I must say it does amuse me that somebody somewhere actually pays good money for the benefit of his 'expert' opinion.
The somebody somewhere is every sky subscriber

Charlie Nicholas pissed his career up the wall. In England he won the league cup. ONE LEAGUE CUP. wow what a legend.

City's failure to capitalize on their chances almost cost them, as Newcastle's conversion rate outshines City's dramatically.*
*Non-called offsides would actually increase this dramatic headline!

Hart's last stud on his right boot saves the day for woeful Blues, who only performed well for 20 minutes of the 90!

When I visited the bbc website today, an offer to give my opinion on it popped up.

As well as telling them that I don't like their dumbing down to cater for the Hello magazine readership, I told them to get their heads out of United's rectum when it comes to football reporting.

Ah, it felt good. For a moment. Then I realised how far my comments are not going to go :(

I got a survey from BT Sport today and gave them both barrels about the standard of their football punditry.

Aguero rescues Blues from yet another dramatic home loss!

Blues forced to rely on Aguero to save them yet again!

Without Aguero, the Billionaires in Blue wouldn't have even beaten the bottom team in the Premier League!

McLaren's first ever victory over City spoiled by Mitrovic's game-changing poor finishing!

Endless supply....!

If you hadn't followed the game v Newcastle, you'd think City had been on the ropes the whole first half, and not had several decent chances themselves, but listening to the pundits, and reading the match reports, Newcastle should've been 3-0 up at half time....!

hmmm a lot of what he said was actually correct. We were in a mess before they scored, Hart did make a save to stop it being 0-2. A lot of what else he said just smelled of the usual man city envy though

He did say, we could have been 4 - 1 down if they'd taken their chances.
What about ours. The bagatelle with Aguero and Fernando for instance.
Surely that counts as a chance. If Silva hadn't got so much boot on his lob.
It's all ifs, buts and aunties bollox. Fucking so biased it's untrue.

I was wondering this myself...

Rag at work today:

"We both got battered in the first half but you guys turned it around"

Me "what makes you think we got battered, did you see the match or just the highlights?"

Rag "highlights".

When we were shit, all the journos commenators and opposition fans admired and respected our loyalty and devotion. Now they all hate us - like we hated the rich kids at school who had all the smart kit.
Their whining distortion of our games annoys me but it's a fair price to pay to support and follow such an amazing team

Having been a City supporter for more years than most on this forum I understand what you say.
We were able to rise above all the criticism others gave us so they had little choice than to admire and respect our loyalty.

Surely this indifference to ridicule and criticism is part and parcel of being a City supporter so why should we expect anything else ? Do we really need the reassurances that we feel we deserve from those who used to patronise us just because we are getting more success than we used to have ?

Yes, maybe we would like others to see our achievements the way they do other teams but if we are upset by it is part of our traditional heritage changing perhaps for the worse ?

I'm actually beginning to find the ramblings of sky and BT sport quite amusing now it's gone beyond ridiculous, but what I find really irritating was Tyler's commentary on Sunday of the rags game he was trying to make a case every minute that if the rags pulled one back at this stage of the game etc he even mentioned just after Ramsey,s miss to make it 4-0 that Arsenal are the only team to let a 4 goal lead slip etc etc

Grim - absolutely.
He got his Big Book of Arselicking out and couldn't stop talking about the comeback that might happen.
I got the impression that Neville was a little embarrassed by him.
