I Believe in Miracles (film about Nottingham Forest)

I am looking forward to this.

As a 23 year old I can't quite get my head around somebody taking a second division side to promotion to the top flight then winning the league in that next season followed by back to back European Cups in the space of 4-5 years.

It would be like one of Bournemouth, Watford or Norwich winning the league this year and winning the Champions League back to back in 2017 and 2018.

Can anybody tell me if the likes of Robertson and Burns would make one of the top sides now?

Was Shilton better than Hart?
Robertson was incredibly quick over the 1st few yards, seemed to always get past the full back,Burns was a centre forward at Birmingham and was always in trouble before Clough transformed him to a very cool classy centre half, difficult to say about Hart/Shilton as times/rules have changed,Shilton seemed to get better&better as he got older so Joe's got time on his side

Shilton was maybe better than Hart , not sure if he was better than Corrigan though. ;-)

Forest were brilliant. One of the best ever English sides. It is great they are finally getting some credit. At the time they never received the recognition they deserved because unsurprisingly the media was, just like nowadays, dominated by its obsession with Liverpool and United. Their 4-0 demolition of the rags at Old Trafford was the time that other fans started to take notice. They were a real "pass and move team" and very aggressive but not dirty. The nearest team I have seen to them in recent years was probably Klop's Dortmund side. Forest were built on a fantastic back four.

As a young lad, I used to LOVE watching Robertson play. Genius.

Watching that youtube vid, I never realised Woodcock had that much pace. Looked quick on there

While the GPC was / is a complete ****, at least Sir Matt was a gentleman and he played for God's Own Team.
Fair point, but he did too good a job there! That's what I was getting at, not their characteristics. Sir Matt and GPC are about as far apart in behaviour/manners as you can get.

I'm sure it has been found to be a game that had been 'fixed'

I think whilst highly dubious the game you are more than likely thinking of was the UEFA Cup Semi Final Clough guided Forest to in 1984 when over a decade later it emerged that the referee had infact been bribed by Anderlecht.

what Brian Clough achieved in his career eclipses bacon faces achievements by some way , sick of hearing how bf is the greatest manager of all time etc etc . Clough took Derby County ,a mid table second division side and got them to a European cup semi final , he then went one better with Nottingham Forest and with some fairly average players , odds n sods and misfits and turned them into one of the top teams in Europe with none of the financial advantages Ferguson always had , good to see with this film the man getting some credit , absolutely criminal given that he would have walked over hot coals for the job that he never got to manage England

He was certainly an excellent manager but things were different in those days and competitions were much more open. Forest's opponents in the 1970 final were Malmo from Sweden. Could you imagine a Swedish team making the final nowadays? Villa won it a couple of years later too. Unthinkable these days not because of the managers of these clubs but the way football has changed. As much as I may dislike the man, the achievements of Ferguson shouldn't be downplayed. He broke up the duopoly of Rangers and Celtic in Scotland with Aberdeen and won a European trophy with them before his success at the rags.

I very much doubt either of them could replicate that level of success in todays game

I cannot see why people constantly try to compare football in general or player and mangers, across different decades/eras.
The game has changed so much. Suffice to say, for us oldies who were there, Clough's Forest side were a great side to watch.
He honed hard working players and made sure they did their job. Which they did with a good balance of aggression and finesse.

I never saw Clough play, but my dad says he was a fantastic centre forward who put everything into his game.
This, he expected from all of his players. No loitering in his sides.

Wish i hadn't started this thread now as reading through it makes me feel very old.

I used to play in the street outside Shiltons house and i once played for LE united aged 15...

The ref from the juventus semi final was proved to have been bribed a few years back, there had been speculation for years
