Let's kill this attendance nonsense myth

Some reporter (Bevan) on the supposed impartial BBC website last night came out with "as predicted earlier, lots of empty seats at the Etihad tonight" with a picture showing some empty seats. I have never seen this style of reporting with any other club.
Our capacity up until the end of last season was 45,000, just over that figure last night so how many other clubs could attract another 7 or 8 thousand within a matter of weeks to what wasn' t such an attractive opposition?

What get's me is, ok rival fans can take the piss, but why do some in the media feel the need to point it out ! You never hear these guys say another coach full out of towners as just pulled up at old trafford or anfield, or there's not much noise coming from the kop today !

But but but . . . those rags put loadsamoney into the economy by buying all that fuel and those Ginsters Buffet Bars on the motorway on the way up from London

Rival fans is just banter and it's all they have. You hear bitter dippers actually drawing up league tables without us and Chelsea in it because in their world we aren't playing fair! How fucking pathetic can you be, but then it is the dippers so not surprising. They trot out the can't fill the stadium shite even though we are filling an expanded stadium. They trot out the WWYWYWS shite despite knowing that a good percentage of us were there. It's tedious but acceptable because like I said it's all they have.

The press on the other hand, bar a few who are actually good reporters just take it all in and spew it all out like little children sniggering to themselves that they are following the rag/dipper line to get more sniggers off the rags/dippers. Pathetic. If they were better are their jobs they would be chief sports writer for a paper rather than writing snidey text comment on the bbc website. Maybe he should focus a bit more on that.

There was a time when attendances was all we have. Now we have booming crowds and a team to match.

The same fans who said why are you extending the ground when you can't fill it, must be gutted every week when they see 54,000 at the Etihad. All fabricated of course.

A rag I know said "what's the point" when we announced expansion plans a couple of years ago! I reminded him of this end unsurprisingly he couldn't really say much seeing as we've comfortably justified expansion with crowds way over 53k for our home games.

Easy - City Could
The attendance and atmosphere on Wednesday was shite.
This definitely influences the players and them being up for it !
City seem to think that because we sell out week in week out in the prem that we will easily sell out Champs League games.
The truth is, a lot of city fans at best aren't keen on the competition due to Uefa and the Moscow debacle and general bad press the club gets about its performances in Europe.
The club need to realise this, knock a tenner off the ticket prices and get proper City fans to these games who can create the required atmosphere which in turn will increase performance levels of the players.
Instead they are happy with day trippers paying the current prices.
Wake Up City, If you want the Champs League games to Rock the place, do something about it.
At the end of the day we have no history of big european nights at the Etihad, we need to create them first!

I get the impression that some in the media feel the need to put us down as other fans have put utd down for years with stuff like, your fans don't coming from Manchester or just a bunch of glory hunting foreigners, and most football fans in Manchester are City fans. So now Sheikh Mansour as turned us around, it's getting harder and harder to take the piss, I remember the rags giving out about the worst champions ever, which some in the media picked up and quoted as City ended up finishing second, yet never heard it once the season after when utd didn't even finish in the top four ! so now this bullshit about empty seat, yet the Sevilla game was the first one below 50,000 !

The last time there was a crowd of over 50,000 at Anfield for a football game Geno by Dexy's Midnight Runners was Number One.

10,000 empty seats at Arsenal - and their season tickets include the first 7 cup/European games, don't they? Was there a reason for it?

The BT morons were very big on there only being 800 Sevilla fans - how big is the away section so carefully shown by pictures.

The muppets from Salford/Thailand witter on about it because they know it's irritating. The pondlife in the media do it because they know the muppets lap it up, and believe it all.

When you have the MUEN reporting that City fans were fighting Sevilla fans during the day, what chance does anyone have? Most reported wrongly or made sure the words Manchester City appeared liberally in big letters for subliminal work.

I do think its funny when United or Liverpool bang on about our attendance. At the end of the day we don't have the following (currently) that these clubs do. It will come and I see a great future for us. What more could we want as a fans?

That's all they have these days. The banter used to be about football when they were competing with Real/Barca/Munich and we were scrapping to get out of league one and two. All they have now is 'look let's all laugh at a few empty seats'... We all know most of their fans are out of town glory hunters... all these 'fans' follow United who along with Liverpool have been the most successful clubs in England for 40 years... They only follow theme because they won things...they took the easy option.

^exactly^

Our winning and the wide spread frustration is causes makes winning even more satisfying!

Fuck united and Liverpool , their bid match is when they play each other, and scrapping for fourth place, we on the other hand have far bigger fish to try

I made this point last season just after the Roma game where Scoles made the point about the atmosphere being terrible. A few weeks later Liverpool played Basel in Gw6 needed to win to qualify. It was set up as ...'One of those famous Anfield nights' Liverpool were terrible Basel scored and all you could here were the Basel fans singing. Not a peep from the kop. I waited for any mention of the flat atmosphere. Nothing.
It's annoying but like other posters have said it's really the only stick they really have to beat us with.

I don't remember the special european nights at anfield in the 70's (a bit before my time) but you can't knock them now, I love the way they sing all the songs in a foreign language, normally the same language as the foreign team they are playing !

I think half the problem is that the media now seems to be made up of just your ordinary fan with a degree in journalism from an online university in Timbuktu. The level of journalism has sunk to an all time low as we see week on week and the people writing these articles are actually just under qualified hacks who have no capability of writing anything other than same old predictable crap.

They also write these articles as they know it gets lapped up by the gawping jealous rags dippers and tarquins which gives them the most clicks and therefore effectively pays their wages. Imagine an article about how City now average 53k in the league and what a success the new stand is. We would all be saying bravo, however the majority would give it no time at all.

I find it funny that on one hand we get WWYWYWS as if we're made up of glory hunters, and on the other we get slagged for having no one turn up to games.

Best just nod your head and laugh, the majority that worry about crowd sizes have never been to a game in their life.

I love it when anyone has a go about our crowds. I make Gary James look like an amateur. Have about 90 facts at hand. Which club got 23.000 for a home European club final?
Excellent. Get them all on here. It's a topic City win hands down if we talk about highs and lows. City never had lowest crowd in their division, Utd have.
City never averaged less that 12k, Utd have at Old Trafford!
City never had a league crowd lower than 8k, Utd have on several occasions. Lowest about 3k.

Europe - didn't Utd get about 19k for a home European tie as well? Nevilles debut!
