Attacks in Paris

I'm loving the irony of an anti-Muslim sentiment on the same page everybody is super concerned that Billy is ok.
 
Certainly hope City make it more of a priority to check bags on the way in. I've gone to a game straight from the gym before and just walked in with my gym bag. Need to get serious about security at football matches in England. It's not outlandish to think the Premier League will be targeted in the coming years.

I worked just in Ardwick when I was a student in a box packing warehouse and rushed to City to get to a night match once and had my Stanley knife on me (I'd forgotten I had it in my bag) and I was never checked upon entrance.

It's because neither side of the debate are willing or seemingly capable to separate the identity of 'Islamist' from Muslim. If the left leaning become less sensitive to the demonisation of Islamists out of fear that innocent muslims might be targeted by the right leaning who identify Islamists as Muslim, maybe then we can start tackling the issue and the perpetrators.

Rhetoric surrounding the demonising of the IS Islamists should no longer be interpreteted as 'Islamophobia' in the same sense that Muslims and Islam should no longer be uttered in the same breath as 'Islamists'. Identify it as a cancerous ideology that has no links to anything other than what it is. You see someone using this to justify Islam as a religion of hate, correct them on it. You see someone attempt to shutdown debate by bringing in 'Islamophobia', correct them on it. If we want to make any headway in tackling this issue, both sides of the debate need to unite and agree that Islamism and Islam are as different as chalk and cheese and have no correlation.

That's always been a thing I can't get my head around with going to City matches and concerts over in England, the complete lack of security for stadiums/concert venues. Everywhere you go in the States, you're subject to a pat down/have your bags checked. Many of the larger venues have metal detectors now. Since 9/11 it's just been that way. Even prior to 9/11, but I think that was mostly for trying to smuggle cameras/video recorders into concerts more so.
 
I can't be arsed getting wound up over it, a sad loss of life. People being punished for enjoying themselves with families.

Not sure why you need to see this happen. It's pretty clear to anyone not harbouring anti muslim prejudice that Isis doesn't represent mainstream Islam. Theyre slaughtering Muslims in their thousands.

Do you ask this of other groups? I mean we live in a country where 2 women a week are killed by their partners and over 60000 women are raped each year. Do you need to see 100000 men to take to the streets and reassure us all that not all men are rapists? Or are you able to figure that one out yourself?

If you asked someone part of ISIL if they are a Muslim what would they say? Just because it's not the way most Muslims live their Islamic life doesn't mean they aren't following Islam. They think they are. They strictly follow the word of the Quran. It's probably the only thing they read and they read it every day.

But do wish leaders and certain groups would show solidarity and have a backbone. Sadly they will hide and play the victim in this.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant have claimed responsibility for last nights murders.

Ask them if they are true Muslims...Just because you'd be told they aren't by other followers of Islam who have different ideologies of their religion doesn't mean they aren't true Muslims.

Fair enough they do not represent their whole religion but it also doesn't mean they aren't Muslims.

They would say they were a Muslim. But they'd be wrong. I could identify myself as a Sith, doesn't mean i'm right. They think they are following the Quran, using verses such as 3:28, 5:51, 5:80 and 3:118 as justification of their jihad, but again, they are wrong. They are picking and choosing the verses which are suitable to their ideology. They are about as Muslim as you or I.

Just to clarify my thinking, I'm not a religious man (Unless it's a spiritual connection to Woden, be praised!) I abhor all organised religions as I find them detrimental to humanity and progress. Neither am I here defending Islam as an ideology. I simply advocate that the debate be focused on the problem itself rather than strawman arguments about whether Islam is good or bad, a debate which has kept the focus off IS and it's associates, stifling our actions in preventing their growth.
