I'd say that the key difference would be that in ISIS' ideal state they'd be the ones in power, not the Saudi royal family. I'd imagine living conditions would be on a par with Indonesia, parts of China and most of sub Saharan Africa.

I'll tell you something scarier, most of them are perfectly sane. They come from all walks of life: poor, wealthy, even many academically gifted young people with promising futures ahead of them.

The one thing they all share in common is an ideology.

It is absolutely central to them and their cause.

It is one fundamentally centred in religion.

They believe in martyrdom. They believe in Jihad. They believe in their superiority as Sunni Muslims. They believe in a caliphate. They believe in these things so much that they're perfectly willing to piss away their mortal existence and die pursuing these things for the promise of great riches in a supposed afterlife.

They genuinely believe these things.

And most of them are perfectly sane.

This is the sheer power of ideology. It can motivate people to do utterly inhumane things to other human beings. It can make rational people do entirely irrational things.

You are absolutely deluding yourself if you suggest otherwise.

No I'm an Irish Catholic by birth and an Atheist by choice. I fail to see what impact my choice of or lack of faith would have on my right to an opinion on this forum and this thread though. Although according to you it seems to affect my ability to mass murder.
